Karen Handbury, loving wife of the late Bruce Handbury of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the age of 83 years.
Karen was raised in Innisfail. She met Bruce in Innisfail and were married November 8, 1951. They resided in Wetaskiwin where they raised their four children, then later resided in Sundre. In 1973 they purchased property at Kootenay Lake, where they retired to in 1989. They enjoyed fishing and golfing as well as travelling. Following Bruce’s passing, Karen enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren at the lake and continued to travel, enjoying many cruises.
Karen is survived by her children Helen (Michel) Labonte, Janet (Murray) Spelrem, Mike (Theresa) Handbury and Doug (Elizabeth) Handbury, grandchildren Kirk (Angela), Jeff, Andrea (Matt), Corey (Ashleigh), Jonathan, Elliot, Megan, Deeanna, Dalton, Billy and Andrew, three great grandchildren Gabrielle, Lachlan and Ava, three brothers Jack (Ione) Thompson, Albert (Joan) Thompson and Dan Thompson, a sister Marie (Tony) Czirfusz, a sister-in-law Jeannette Thompson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her beloved husband, she was predeceased by a brother Jim Thompson and a sister-in-law Pat Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
