August 21, 1919 – February 01, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lyn Hamilton peacefully at home on Friday February 1, 2013 at the age of 93 years.
Lyn was born in McCord Saskatchewan, the fifth child Willie and May Belsher. Lyn always wanted to go to university, but the war broke out, she enlisted, and was sent to Halifax with the RCAF. It was in Halifax that she met a sailor named Doug, fell in love and got married. Doug and Lyn were married for 64 plus years. They moved to Calgary in 1953 and soon after started Belsher’s Ltd. with some of Lyn’s brother’s. Doug and Lyn Loved to camp, fish and go the mountains in their new trailer. Lyn joined Sweet Adelines and it was a joy in her life as she loved to sing. The AGOG girls got together on a regular basis. One year they went to Palm Springs to visit Len and Betty Laycock, bought a mobile home and went back for 35 years. During that time Doug and Lyn, Mona and Norm, and Don and Joyce refined “the art of garaging.” Mom loved to do “hand work” and she spent countless hours knitting lap rugs, mittens, slippers, and dish cloths. But she was at her best doing Petti-Point. Hour upon hour she would stich a picture all the while knowing it was for somebody she cared about and loved. Lyn Hamilton was a kind and caring person who was always thinking of others. Her biggest joy was her family. Her home was filled with pictures of her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandkids, and great grandkids. She loved us all equally. Words cannot express the feelings we had for Lyn, Evy, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister, Aunt, or Great Aunt. She was truly a Great Lady and will live in our hearts forever
Lyn will be missed by her sons Ron (Shirley), Cam (Marge); granddaughters Sarah Fletcher (Chris), Kate Hampton (Chris); grandsons Scott Hamilton (Trish) Brad Hamilton (Kim); her great grandchildren Ben, Luke, Will, Riley, Jeremy, Ian, Sean, Ayden, Cooper and Ashlynn; her brothers Hugh Belsher, Art Belsher, Laurie Belsher (Ruth), Ken Belsher (Betty), Don Belsher (Joyce), Doug Belsher (Annette); her sisters Francis Shattuck, Ursula Donaldson, Doris Rushienski, Alice MacEachern, Marg MacKenzie, Gwen Dodds (Glenn) and sister-in-laws Bev Belsher, Dorothy Hamilton and Dorothy Hamilton; as well as countless nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Doug of 64 years in 2008; sister Nita; brothers Chuck and Merv; sister-in laws Jeannie, Martha, and Marg Belsher; brother-in-laws Orv Daniels, Gerry McKenzie, Mat Rushienski, Arch Donaldson, Dan MacEachern, Dee Shattuck, Jim Hamilton and Gerry Hamilton.
