Born April 12th, 1927, Marie Hamilton was 83 years old when she passed away on July 9, 2010 at Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, AB. Marie is survived by five children and their families; The eldest is Penny Melosh (Bud) of Northfield, NJ, two grandchildren – Nick (Jill) Melosh and two great-grandchildren, Kara and Kai Melosh of Menlo Park, CA; and Greg (Angie) Melosh of Havelock, NC. Angie is currently serving in Djibouti, Africa. The second is Jeff (Kay) Bergquist of Pittsford, VT, and two grandchildren, Kyle (Amy) Bergquist and one great-grandchild, Ellen Bergquist of Hartford, CT; and Allison Bergquist, currently serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The middle child is Chris (Cathy) Bergquist of Calgary, AB, two grandchildren – Christine (Henrie) Mutagubya of Cochrane, AB and Kampala, Uganda (Africa); and Susan (Troy) Herman, two great- grandchildren – Jared Herman of Calgary, AB and Corinne Pederson of Lake Country, BC. Her youngest son is Kerry (Jane) Bergquist of Oceanside, CA. Her youngest daughter is Melissa (Doug) Rotatori, and three grandchildren – Alexandria, Carly and Julia Rotatori of Summit, NJ. Marie is also survived by siblings Elizabeth (Ray) Alcock of Rehoboth, MA; Margaret (Steve) Alcock of Gunnison, CO; Thomas (Marisol) Alcock of Wellington, FL; and Ralph (Holly) Alcock of Nashua, NH. Marie was predeceased by her husbands Roy Bergquist and Richard Hamilton, sister Joanne Bydeskuthy, mother Marie MacKellar and father Thomas Alcock.
Marie was born in Burlington, VT and raised in Massachusetts. First married in Brattleboro, VT she raised her five children in Bennington, VT. She divorced and was subsequently remarried in Winooski, VT. Marie worked a variety of jobs, including a long stretch at AT&T before retiring and settling on an island in Surrey, Maine. She later relocated to Summerfield, FL until the death of her second husband, at which time she immigrated to Calgary, AB Canada where she stayed until her death. Her last few years were spent under the loving care of the 600 wing staff at Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, AB. Their acceptance and compassion were much appreciated.
Marie was actively involved in her family, community and various churches, and passed away a member of Cochrane Valley Community Church. She had a feisty spirit, and enjoyed an active life, taking up hiking while in Maine and downhill skiing in VT in her later years. She loved to travel, spend time at the beach, visit with family and play games with a passion. She was a card shark and passed on her enthusiasm and adventurous spirit to all of her kids.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Thursday, July 15th, 2010 at Cochrane Valley Community Church (53 West Aarsby Road, Cochrane, AB) at 11:00 a.m. Marie had requested to be cremated and interred with her second husband, Richard in Florida at a later date.
