Eunice Clare Halpen of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the age of 83 years, after a lengthy illness, leaving behind her loving family and her loyal dog Teddi.
Eunice was born in Castor, AB and moved to Calgary in 1940 to attend St. Mary’s Girls school. It was in Calgary that she met Terry and they raised five children together.
Eunice worked for continuing education at Dr. Carl Safran until she retired in 1994, and in her retirement volunteered at the Kirby Centre. Eunice was a long time member of Oil Wives Club where she made life long friends. Golf was one of her favorite activities and she was always up for a round of golf. Eunice loved playing bridge, attending opera and ballet performances and travelling. Her more cherished travel adventures include her Italian adventure with her daughter, and attending family reunions in Prince Edward Island and Ireland. Eunice was happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
Eunice met her health challenges in her last few years with strength and dignity. Thank you to Home Care nurses Barb Siebel and Catherine Janzen for their kindness and the staff at Rosedale Hospice. A special thank you to Kate Patajo for her care and attention to Eunice these last few months.
Eunice was predeceased by father Alfred (1963) her mother Clare (1989), and brothers Tommy shot down in the Second World War (1942), Gerald (1995) and Vincent (2010) and ex-husband Terrance (2010). Eunice is survived by her children Patricia (Jim), Greg (Jacquie), Michael (Linda), Karen (Robert) and Alix (Mike), grandchildren Todd, Andrea, Marley, Finn, Kaya, Mitchell and Chelsea, sister Phyllis Marie MacKenzie (Cecil), sisters in law Marion ( Mayo) Murphy and Anne Murphy .
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
