HAINES, Robert “Rob”

August 27, 1965 – March 29, 2014

Norman Robert Haines, beloved son of the late Norman Haines and Linda Haines, brother to Ruth Minions (David), and uncle to Sarah, Patricia & Christina Minions, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2014 in Calgary, AB.

Rob lived his life ‘full throttle’ with purpose, passion & courage. Born in Pointe-Claire, QC, Rob spent his early life in Kitchener & Chatham, ON, followed by a move to Calgary, AB in 1973. Once settled, Calgary became the launching pad for many adventures, both professionally and personally. In his many travels, Rob spent time living and working in the mountains, most notably Banff & Lake Louise.

He had many friends who loved and respected him; knowing that he was always good for a laugh and willing to listen. His family knew he would be there to share and support when needed and he knew that they were there for him too. Whether it was at work, the gym, at the pub, or around the family dinner table, Rob cared and was willing to share the benefit of his experiences to all.

Rob was an entrepreneur and dedicated sales professional who was president of the Argosy Group which he founded in 2003. In addition to his own business he was a long time sales instructor at Mount Royal University as part of their Continuing Education program. His clients valued his work as they knew he took their causes on as his own. They also knew him to be forthright and committed to do what was right for the businesses, teams, and individuals he worked with.

His community appreciated all he had to offer and he gave freely and willingly to ensure all moved in the right direction toward worthy goals. Rob was a long time participant in Scouts Canada, making a difference as a youth and then later as a leader. One of his most memorable experiences was with Operation Raleigh in Cameroon, Africa.

Rob lived many adventures and whether it was on the trail, on his Harley, the ski slopes, or overseas…Rob truly LIVED!!!

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Rob’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing to make memorial tributes in Rob’s name, may do so to the charity of donor’s choice. Rob, last time I saw you I ran into you at the Airport. It appears that you passed away while I was on a flight to the UK on the 29th. To Rob’s family and extended family I am so sorry I am unable to attend this Friday as I am in the UK. I will remember you Rob for allowing me to agree to disagree with you sometimes, and then go for a beer and laugh about it. Sincerely, Malcolm Tubb ( About Staffing 2006/07)

Robert always demonstrated compassion for people. I had the honour to work with Robert in his career at Dale Carnegie Training and I witnessed on many occasions him going out of his way to help another succeed. He came to Edmonton and delivered a Sales program for us and the class members loved his enthusiasm and his insight into selling. A good man and one who will be missed, his energy was contagious! Our prayers are with Roberts friends and Family .

Rob was as true as it gets. For the past 13 years we grew our friendship from a student/instructor at Dale Carnegie, to life long friends. I always was astonished on how much knowledge he had and how remarkable his memory was and how much he truly cared for the people in his life. I will miss our serious business discussions, our kid -like laughter, and our passion for the open road. You were a true friend and i will miss you greatly. My prayers and thoughts are with your family. May your memory live long with everyone. RIP brother.

    Rob,
My mentor. We spent time together in Cameroon, West Africa, 25 years ago. As a young boy from a deprived background – a place named Easterhouse in Glasgow, Scotland, Rob was keen to hear and understand my plight in life. As we bonded, two guys from opposite sides of the world, Rob took me under his wing, as I tried to make sense of being in a foreign land, trying to understand the rights, the rituals and the passage towards survival. Rob inspired me. We shared some amazing experiences, stories, anecdotes and jokes. I have a brilliant photograph of both of us staring wildly, eyes fixed on cooking our only meal for 3 days, (and of course as always), Rob softy reflecting on the fact that we should be grateful for all we have. I remember sitting, square bang, in the middle of the jungle and Rob lighting a cigarette. He looked content and happy puffing away. When I asked to indulge in his partaking, he abruptly , but gently encouraged me to reject any thought. Rob was a man who was not short, on offering a positive direction. A true friend to all. Affectionately known to me as “The Big Yin”. I drink my Scotch Whisky tonight in memory of Rob. Cheers. Wee Scots Laddie Martin x
