Condolence Messages

  1. Uncle Matt was my hero. Not only was he in the war, but he gave me 3 funny male cousins, dressed up at Hallowe’en, and had a candy store!!
It was always a fun time in the blue house, (Aunt Mac loved blue), & when he visited us, it was countless hours of trying to avoid his “hammering hand”. Uncle Matt took time to entertain us, & I loved listening to him & Dad laugh ’til they cried.
My visits with Uncle Matt taught me many things, like how loving someone doesn’t mean agreeing all the time, how humor can soothe a frazzled soul, & how just BEING is a good reminder to stop & smell the roses. I will love my Uncle Matt forever, & carry the joy we shared together, deep within my heart.

Wishing you Peace, Joy and Love, Diane

  2. Diane & Rich Hirsekorn :

We remember Matt and Mac well. They were the best neighbors we ever had when we lived in Calgary. They were a second set of parents to us and always looked after us. We enjoyed their company and shared many hours together. After we moved away, we always kept in touch with them and saw them as much as we could.

Matt’s quiet ways of understanding, compassion and love for his family and friends will always be in our memory and hearts. He was always there for us and taught us to appreciate life, family and friends. Thank you Matt for your love and guidance.

We keep Bob, Ron & Wayne and families and all the Hagels in our prayers and thoughts. May your precious memories of the life you shared lessen your sorrow and loss. Matt is now with Mac and in God’s Arms in Peace.
May Perpetual Light Shine upon Him.
God Bless you all. You will always be remembered.
    In deepest sympathy

  6. Anna marie Johnson :

Even though it has been many years since I have seen Uncle Matt, I can remember so many great times visiting as we were growing up. My parents Pete and Clara would show up with a carfull of kids in tow for a visit and we would all blend in as one big happy family. Noisy but happy. I will always remember those times with love. Please believe this…family never really leaves us they just create different opportunities to think of them. My love and thoughts to all. Anna-marie Johnson aka TWEETY>

  7. Allow me to indroduce myslef, I am the youngest daughter of Wayne, and favorite grandchild of Matt. I am sure he said the same to the other grandchildren if not, sorry guys! I have a million memories of gramps, the most prominent are: allowing grandpa to “practice” reflexology on my feet while I rest comfortably in his white rocker. I remember playing with gramps hair, making it stand straight up like horns as he sat without complaint. I laugh when I think of him teaching me how to say “raisen bread” in German, how he said the number 3 like “tree” and how they thought by using German we didn’t know they were swearing. I remember horse back rides when he was younger…and I was lighter, walking after dinner or going to the park to give gram a break, or routinely sleeping on the living room floor after each meal and claiming he was “just resting his eyes”. Throughout his life grandpa took every opportunity to create memories for us, so with respect to Grandpa and in honour of his playful character I ask you to occasionaly poke someone with a fork during dinner or randomly offer a loved one a knuckle sandwich! “Grandpa, your humor and playfulness will be handed down throughout the generations I am certain, your hugs and kisses will be missed and memories of you will be engraved in our minds always”
    oxoxox your favorite,
