HACKETT, Graeme Russell

MARCH ARCHITECT AAA LEED AP
May 6, 1981 – June 18, 2014

Graeme Hackett beloved husband of Tracy Brockman of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the age of 33 years.

Graeme was the greatest. He led his life with purpose, curiosity and care for everyone and every thing. He created change with his heart and his ideas. Graeme became registered as an Architect this past December, but was thoughtful his entire life. He most loved having fun with his friends and family. His legacy and love will live through us, and those he was even near.

Graeme is survived by Mum and Dad, Dexter, Tracy and Gladys, and met by his brother Gareth. We miss you. We love you. We are lucky for our time with you.

“we are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that death will tremble to take us” – Charles Bukowski-

  6. Jason, Lucy, Bo and Charlie Curtis :

Mr and Mrs Jeff Hackett and Mrs Tracy Hackett,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Graeme.

I met Graeme at Cohos Evamy after having moved from the UK with my wife and daughter – He would often speak fondly of you and his extended family in Liverpool during our regular lunches at The Drum and Monkey where we would sometimes have a pint and watch the soccer together over a Monkey Burger.

We collaborated closely on several projects over the years: His passion, talent and drive to create high quality – and most importantly to him – sustainable design solutions were a breath of fresh air. When I eventually left Cohos Evamy he patiently took-on teaching me AutoCAD at my home in Bragg Creek so I would be adequately prepared for my new job. He was great with my children and would always thoughtfully bring back a gift or two for them when he went travelling the globe.

We lost touch when I moved on but I thought of him often and learned of his steady career progress through mutual friends. It was a shock to learn of his passing. He was an extraordinary person in so many ways.

    My thoughts are with you.

Jason, (Lucy, Bo and Charlie) Curtis

  7. Graham Livesey :

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Graeme. I had the distinct pleasure of working closely with Graeme as one of his teachers in the Master of Architecture program at the University of Calgary. I was his supervisor for his final project, and will remember him as a gentle and thoughtful person with a real passion for architecture. My thoughts go out to his family, colleagues, and many friends.

  8. Tracy, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I never met Graeme in person, I was very grateful that you and he were able to stay in my condo with my cats while I dealt with the loss of a sister in 2006. From then, I’ve heard about your and Graeme’s achievements from Aunt Carol and felt that both your successes couldn’t happen to better people. Graeme will be a loss to the world of architecture and especially to you and your families. My thoughts are with you.

Genuine, selfless, passionate, caring, intelligent, and funny are just a few words that come to mind when I think about him. It is a great loss and words can never truly express how much he meant to those who knew him.

  19. Scott Taylor :

    Dear Barb, Jeff and Tracy,

Having grown up in Canada away from my extended family my cousins are the Hackett’s and Pike’s kids who are also in the same situation, so it is with tremendous sadness that I address these condolences to you. Graeme was more than a friend to me, in my heart he was family and his loss along with Gareth’s will never be forgotten. As parents you’ve endured more than anyone should have to, so all my love to you in this difficult time.

Tracy you lost your soul mate and partner in life. I know Graeme will be with you always in your heart. Time heals all wounds, so in time I hope the happy memories of your life together will replace the pain of the loss you feel now. He was a good man and he will forever be in my heart and thoughts.

    Sent with love and remembrance,
Scott & Holly Taylor & Family

  20. to Barb, Jeff and Tracy and the extended Hackett family –

I had the good fortune of teaching Graeme at EVDS and found him to be an exceptional person – his passion for the craft of architecture and his charming personality. Following graduation, I was lucky enough to know Graeme not only as a student, but as a friend, and was devastated to hear of his illness. Though his time here was short, Graeme touched many lives, all of whom benefited greatly as a result of those moments. He will be greatly missed.

    Best Wishes.
    Tony

I’m so sorry. I was fortunate enough to have a coffee with Graeme very shortly before his health declined. We had continuously crossed paths since university and it was always very welcome. Graeme simply had a way of making people feel like they were important and every conversation was interesting. The service was incredible and he will be missed by so many.

  26. Kristina Meehan-Prins :

I am so sorry to learn of Graeme’s passing. I was fortunate enough to meet him during our first year of architecture, and then work with him for several years on various projects while I worked at a local landscape architecture firm. Graeme was always such a positive, inclusive, friendly, caring and creative person & I truly enjoyed my time studying and working with him. We lost touch in the last couple years when I left to start a family, but I’ve thought of him often and am most saddened to hear that he has now passed on. I will always remember him most fondly. My deepest sympathies for your loss.
