GRIBBLE, Kenneth Robert William

April 9, 1934 – Toronto, ON
April 30, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Peacefully, at South Health Campus, Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the age of 80. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Janeene of 55 years. Dearly loved father of Robert (Paula, Angelina & Chaz). Cherished father of Andrew (Kristen) and adored Papa of Allie & Avery. Much loved Uncle Kenny to Sandra (Steve) Melissa, Aiden & Kelly. Enduring love & friendship for his sister Ruby (deceased) and her husband Gord.

Lovingly remembered by many friends back home in Ontario and new friendships treasured here in Airdrie and Calgary. Ken was a simple man who loved his family & friends to the end of his days.

“If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill
Be a scrub in the valley…but be
The best little scrub by the side of the hill;
Be a bush if you can’t be a tree.

If you can’t be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway some happier make;
If you can’t be a muskie then just be a bass…
But the liveliest bass in the lake.

If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can’t be the sun be a star;
It isn’t by size that you win or you fail…
Be the best of whatever you are.”

In living memory of Kenneth, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  4. Betty Hynes :

    My Dearest Janeene, Rob & Paula and family:

    The one thing missing in my life is that I never get to meet all the family members of the wonderful people whom I have had the pleasure of working with over the years. I can assume however, having known his beloved son Rob, that Ken was an equally as wonderful, caring and special man! The poem is so fitting and so true – something we (the bushes and muskies of this world) should all strive to live our lives by.

    I do hope the sadness of your loss is replaced by the comfort of remembering the gentleman – who now rests in peace – as the husband, father, grandfather and uncle that you all loved, respected and admired!

    I never got to meet him – but I miss him!!

    Love and warmest of hugs to you all!!

    Betty

  7. Mike & Teresa Walkovich :

    Dear Gribble Family

    Some of my favorite memories of growing up in Agincourt are times when the Gribbles and Walkovich’s would get together. Mr Gribble’s easy going way was always welcoming.
    A respected man of the community, Mr. Gribble was also my favorite hockey coach.
    Our world was made better by knowing such a nice man and family.
    Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
    Love,
    Mike, Teresa, Jessie, Emily, Alexa

  10. Kathryn Marshall :

    Dear Mrs. G, Rob, Andy, and Families,

    Our sincere condolences in the loss of your husband and father; affectionately know to me as “Mr. G”. Our families grew up together, so many special memories from hockey rinks, to pool parties, times up north, construction zones, home inspections, weddings, baby celebrations, trips to Maine and LL Bean, just to name a select few. One of my favourite memories is Mr. G letting me look after “Frank the Lion” (mascot for the Agincourt Lions) in between hockey games – Frank now has a place in my home and wears the hockey jerseys of my daughters.

    Mr. G will always have a special place in my heart; he was a wonderful, kind man and I know my life is richer for having known him.
    Our deepest sympathies, you are each in our thoughts and prayers.

    Love,
    Kathryn and Family

  17. Jim and Joyce Ovens :

    Dear Janeene
    Your message about Ken is a fitting tribute to a wonderful man.
    As you know we first met Ken when he was Dan’s hockey coach for Jackson’s Meat Market
    (which was later purchased by Bruno’s Meat Market.) Ken was an excellent hockey coach. For 2 years Dan’s team won in-house league championship under Ken’s guidance. Then we think that Ken coached a Tim Horton’s team.
    Over the years, our friendship grew. Ken was a kind, understanding and empathetic friend.
    We will remember his easy going manner and pleasant personality.
    You are in our thoughts, Janeene.
    Love
    Jim, Joyce and Dan
