GRAY, Keith Douglas

November 12, 1925 – February 5, 2013

Keith Gray, beloved husband of Grace Gray of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the age of 87 years.

Keith was born in Waterloo, ON. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a finance man all his working career but his true love after Grace was golf. Dad’s nickname was Zoro. For any who golfed with Dad, the nickname didn’t need explaining, Keith was fast and accurate. He had the distinction of making five hole in one’s over his illustrious golfing career, two at Redwood Meadows in a single week! He moved the family from the east and fell in love with the west. Keith had a passion for life that was contagious. We will miss him dearly.

Besides his loving wife of sixty-five years, Keith is survived by son and daughter-in-law Fraser and Audrey Gray of Calgary; daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Rick Hollinshead of Vancouver Island; four grandchildren, Nathan (Catherine) Gray, Jennifer Hollinshead, Cassandra Gray and Jared (Jacqui) Smelski; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers Ron and Dave Gray and a sister Evelyn Gray.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca.

In living memory of Keith Gray, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

    Dear family,
So very sorry to lose Keith. It has been wonderful to have been included in the Gray Family for the past 60 years and to have enjoyed Keith in all his glory. I don’t have a single thought about Keith that isn’t a kind of reverence for the strength and greatness of his character. I have the dearest love for him. May he now enjoy a grand reunion with his family for all eternity and now see God face to face.

Saddened to read of Keith’s passing. I worked with Keith at National Trust in Kensington in the late 1980s. He was a great boss and wonderful with the clients. I always heeded Keith’s advice not to take any wooden nickels. Thoughts and prayers.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you Grace, and the family. Lil Chisholm called with the sad news of Keith’s passing. When a loved one leaves this world, I like to think back to all the positive and memorable times we shared. I remember vividly when you and Keith moved in next door. My mother busy sewing and listening to “Love Letters in the Sand” – over and over and over – driving Keith to distraction as he tried to paint your house. Badminton club at the church and his killer instinct to win. We had my parents’ 25th anniversary party at your house. Travelling to Sudbury and watching the pouring of the slag! And, of course, your many visits back to Ontario once you moved to Calgary. All wonderful memories of the Man in the White Hat – aka “Butterball”. He will be sorely missed.
