Greg Gougeon, beloved husband of Dianne Gibbie of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the age of 50 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Greg was born to Tom and Gail Gougeon (Wolfe) in Ottawa, Ontario on February 14, 1962. He graduated from Barrie North Collegiate High School and joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He was a Vehicle Technician for 16 years then went on to drive trucks of all sizes. As a boy, Greg enjoyed many years as a member of the Boy Scouts of Canada. He volunteered for Big Brothers of Calgary and The Humane Society in Comox, British Columbia.
Greg will be remembered as a loyal and loving husband. He had a true love for nature and was incredibly kind and caring to all creatures, big or small. He loved being in the outdoors, whether it was hiking in the mountains, walking along the ocean, by the riverside, or whittling by a campfire. He was very competent fireman, stoking up the many campfires we enjoyed together. He will be remembered also for his great wood carving skills, we always cherish the beautiful walking sticks he made.
Greg is survived by his wife, Dianne Gibbie; his mom Gail of Midland, Ontario; brothers Barry and wife Sandy of Coldwater, Ontario, Brian and wife Bonnie of Midland, Ontario; sister Kim and husband Tim of Calgary, Alberta. As well, his brothers-in-law Chris and wife Laine Gibbie of Calgary, Alberta, and Steve Gibbie of Edmonton, Alberta; and father-in-law Karl and his wife Nancy Gibbie.
Greg was a very special uncle to Dani, Sarah and husband Tony of Calgary, Alberta, Stephanie and husband Drew of Guelph, Ontario, Nicole and husband Eric of Chalk River, Ontario, and Andrew, Evan, Heather, and Brodie of Calgary, Alberta. He was also a great- uncle to Brooklyn, Marcus, Emily, Megan, Ashlee, Isabelle, and Aliana. As well, he leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
Greg was predeceased by his dad, Tom in 1994 and brother Gary in 1976; as well as his mother-in-law Carole in 2006 and sister-in-law Leslie in 2008.
When nights are cold and stars are few, I close my eyes and think of you, A silent hope, A silent tear, A silent wish that you were here.
