Jean Gorrell of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Jean will be missed by all of the friends who shared in her many adventures and particularly by those privileged to call her Auntie Jean.
Jean was born and raised in Peterborough, ON. She attended the University of Toronto, where she joined Alpha Gamma Delta. She came west with her husband Al in the 1950s and made Calgary her home. Jean taught at Calgary Creative School until her retirement. She was an active member of the Calgary Oil Wives and volunteered at Rockyview Hospital.
Jean is survived by her sister in law Marilyn MacTavish, niece Molly Thomson, and goddaughter Nancy Prince. She was predeceased by her husband Al, her parents Gladys and Donald MacTavish, and her brother Sandy. Thank you to the kind staff at Staywell Manor and Wentworth Manor who cared for Jean over the past two years.
A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 – 63rd Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
