GOODWAY, James Cyril

June 28, 1991 – Calgary, Alberta
October 26, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

James, beloved son of Trudy Curran and Bill Goodway of Calgary, adored partner of Lesley Stonebridge of Calgary and loved big brother to sister, Anna Goodway of Calgary, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the age of 23 years. Taken far too soon for someone with so much love for his sweetheart Lesley as they continued to travel the world and explore the delights of cooking together for themselves as well as for family Sunday dinners. So much laughter, love and desire to make this a better world.

James did so much in his short 23 years. James was a national level athlete (having swam for the Calgary Patriots and Calgary Dinos); he worked at PwC (being on track to get his accounting designation next year.) He loved music, history and nature but most of all James loved his family, especially his precious Lesley. James will be so missed.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethany Chapel (3333 Richardson Way S.W.) on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers or gifts, in memorial to James, tributes can be directed to the James Goodway Memorial Fund either online at www.thecalgaryfoundation.com or by cheque payable to The Calgary Foundation (“James Goodway Memorial Fund” noted in memo line) at Suite 700, 999 8th Street SW, Calgary, Alberta T2R 1J5.

In living memory of James Goodway, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  2. To those closest to James,

It is with heartfelt sorrow that I offer my condolences. James was a great friend of mine for a period while we both attended University of Calgary and swam together on the Dinos. I will always remember him as a genuine man and one I looked to for help in times of confusion, as we were both in a time where we were figuring out what to do with our lives. He was taken too soon.

    Sincerely,

    Andre Kudaba

I am deeply saddened by your loss. James was a great guy, whom I had the honour of swimming with on the UofC swim team. James and I would often swim together in the “sprinters” lane closest to the wall. I remember James as being very supportive to his team mates, and a lot of fun to be around. He will be greatly missed. – Kevin

James spent many trips in my car with my daughter and other Calgary Patriot swimmers. Handsome, intelligent, shy & polite. He has left the world far too soon. It should have been me first… and he would say of me; “She was a nice lady but not that good a driver”. James life was cut so short; in the full bloom of life, and love and success. May all of you who loved him, find peace.
    With love, Nancy

I cannot tell you in words how deeply and sadly touched I am to learn of your son, James, death. I heard about it from Gord Uswak in passing as we entered Theatre Calgary. I thought it had occurred some time ago. I only learned that the funeral was last Saturday from Doug Anderson yesterday, or I would have been there to support you.

I cannot help but think of the eerie similarity of this to Jon Claerbout’s loss, and how deeply it affected him. If there is anything I can do to help, you need only ask. I am a good listener, if you would like to have an extended coffee break.

I may be a former colleague, but you can always count me as a friend.
