GILLESPIE – Emerson Wayne

November 13, 1935 – April 14, 2011

Wayne (Emerson) Gillespie, born on November 13, 1935, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the age of 75 years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Ruby; daughter Sheila Sterna (Paul); grandsons Sean (fiancé Anita) and Heath; daughter Debra Gillespie-Sweetnam (Al); grandson Jesse and granddaughter Paige. He will be sorely missed by his brothers Lyle of Victoria BC, and Larry of Dawson Creek, BC, and their families; numerous relatives and many, many friends.

Wayne started out in the oil patch in 1960 driving a wireline truck and retired, after forty years, as a senior executive for Computalog. He was always available to help out a neighbour or friend, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was changing out a clutch in a car or playing a game of cards. One of his favourite spots was the ‘Lake House’, Wayne and Ruby’s second home on Shuswap Lake where they spent many happy times together, and where friends and family were always welcome.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Dearest Ruby, mom… I am truly sorry that I am out of the country and cannot return until April 24, You and Wayne have been great inspirations to me and have guided me as friends, colleagues, mentors and family. I find you both in my thoughts and prayers and I am filled with the remorse of your loss. Please take comfort in the love Wayne held for his family and friends and the fact that many have gained great value and knowledge for his presence in their lives. For me, Wayne has guided me, taught me and gave me his friendship. He will forever be a part of me.

  7. It saddens my heart to hear of the loss of Wayne, he was my boss for many years and people (that did not know him) feared him. I laughed when people cowerd and I still smile when I think of him. He was a good man and my heart along with best wishes for the future go out to his Family.

    Ruby and family,
Our thoughts are with you. We have many fond memories of Wayne from the first time he marched over to our newly purchased lake lot saying in his no nonesense voice, “do you two belong here?” When we introduced ourselves we immediately saw through his tough exterior as he snickered telling us he thought we might be trespassing. It wasn’t long before we came to know the rest of your family and appreciate your warmth, generosity, and cottaging advice. We feel blessed to have met Wayne and will miss his integrity, wisdom and sense of humor. We hope your happy memories bring you some peace during this difficult time. Once again you are in our thoughts and prayers.
