GELHORN, Gordon Ginter

November 14, 1915 – April 22, 2012

Gordon Gelhorn, beloved husband of Laura Gelhorn of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the age of 96.

Gordon was born in Regina, SK and grew up on the family farm in Edenwald, SK. He was a member of the R.C.A.F. and was stationed in Ottawa, ON where he met Laura, his wife of 66 years. His career with National Grain Company spanned forty years and took him to Lavoy, AB, Dauphin, MB, Saskatoon, SK, Edmonton and Calgary. Following his retirement, he sold real estate for Royal LePage and retired once again at the age of 75 years.

Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife Laura; daughter Lynda Allan and her husband Bryan Allan; sons Don and his wife Alana and Bruce and his wife Cindy; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two sisters, Gerda and Lil.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care given to Gordon by the staff of Unit 74 at the Rockyview Hospital and the Southwood Hospice.
