GAUVIN, Phil J.

October 5, 1925 – Ponteix, SK
October 31, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phil J. Gauvin on Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Phil was born in Ponteix, SK to pioneer parents. Life was difficult, and he endured many hardships during his early years. Phil went to school and worked in Ponteix until his conscription at eighteen to the armed forces. Shortly after his return, he moved to Regina and worked for Marshall Wells as a salesman. He married his wife of fifty-two years, Therese “Terri” Chabot, and started their family in Regina, SK. In 1966, they transferred to Calgary, AB. Phil had a successful career with Russell Food Equipment until his retirement. Phil and Terri had many wonderful years in Mesa, AZ with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, pheasant hunting, bowling, wine making, billiards, walking, card playing and a good glass of scotch! Most of all, Phil loved his family, and counted himself as fortunate for having such a wonderful one to call his own.

Phil will be sadly missed by his three children and their spouses, Roger Gauvin, Michelle (Tom) Bishop, and Ray (Glennis) Gauvin; and by his grandchildren, who gave him enormous joy, Erin and Kaitlin Bishop and Connor, Zachary and Isabella Gauvin; his brother Gerry (Ruth) Gauvin; sister Cecile (Keith) Jones; many wonderful brothers and sisters-in-law and their families; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family; and special friend Elise Demuynki. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Rose Gauvin; loving wife Terri; brothers Charlie and Leo; and sisters, Louise Dubourt, Rose Erne and Irene MacIntosh.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  3. Andrea Brussa :

Dear Ray and the family,, I am so sorry. It has been difficult for all of you . At least Phil is now out of pain. Hopefully this Hopi Healing Poem will be of some comfort:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

    With love for you all,
    Andrea

If I may use a few lines from a Bruce Springsteen song(and you know I will)

“They say you can’t take it with you, but I think they are wrong,
I woke up this morning and something BIG was Gone”

Our thoughts are with you now and always.
