GAUCHER, Michael Donald

July 19, 1970 – July 14, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mike Gaucher (Goats) of Airdrie, Alberta on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the age of 41 years. We will remember you always.

Mike was born in Calgary. His family moved several times in his younger years, living in Drumheller, Taber, Peace River, and Westlock, Alberta. After graduating high school at Drumheller Comp., Mike tried a stint at Lethbridge College and then tried living in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. He then moved back to Drumheller where he met his first wife Teresa Tondu, and their daughter Beth was born. Later on, after marrying his chosen love Lynne, he moved to Calgary and then to Airdrie where their son Connor was born.

Mike tried his hand at a few trades; IGA, Ralstons, Bar Manger at Boston Pizza, and the Den, before settling on a career as a Correctional Officer at the Drumheller Institute. Sports! What can we say, he loved them all. If you needed to know any stats, Goats was the one to ask, but for some reason the Habs were “always the best”.

Mike leaves behind the love of his life, Lynne (nee Kirton), their 7 months old son Connor, daughter Elizabeth, 10 of Lethbridge, step-son Jordan, 14 of Airdrie, father Rene Gaucher (Sandy Wolf) of Morrin, AB, mother Joan Roe (Keith) of Moosomin, SK; mother-in-law Georgina Kirton, brother-in-law Gary Kirton (Sherri), sister-in-law Laura Mattie (Troy) of Airdrie, and father-in-law Frank Kirton of Richmond Hill, ON. As well, he is survived by his step-brothers and step-sisters Troy Wolf (Lisa), Darren Wolf (Tracy), and Jason Wolf (Christine) of Morrin, AB, Tanis Stanhope (Randy) of Rocanville, SK, Jason Roe (Tanya) of Invermere, BC, Jarett Roe of Invermere, BC; two very special cousins Ashley Paice and Nichole Bouvier; 16 nephews, 8 nieces, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mike was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Omer and Cecile Gaucher of Coderre, SK., and maternal grandparents Don and Mabel MacDonald of Whitewood, SK.

Funeral Services will be held at Town & Country Centre (275 Jensen Drive N.E. Airdrie, Alberta) on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Mike Gaucher, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Airdrie Funeral Home, 300 TOWERLANE DRIVE, AIRDRIE, AB. Telephone: (403) 948 1100

  1. Cory J Horth :

I’ve generally got something to say about everything and am seldom at a loss for words, but at last…I’m without them. My heart aches for Mikes family and I am sorry to know that he has passed. I was honored to help Lynne and Mike find their new home in Airdrie where I knew they had many plans for a beautiful future together in love with their family. I’m sorry this was cut short so soon. You’re all in our prayers. God bless and rest in peace Mike. Respectfully, Cory J and family

Lynne and family I was so lost for words when I heard of Mikes passing. Although I never did meet him from the pics I saw you both were truly in love. I know how you must be feeling right now, lost for words and feeling like you are in a bad dream. I still almost a year later feel this way. I want you to always remember its healthy to cry at any given time, don’t ever stop yourself from crying. Also hold on to all the memories you have because they will last a lifetime! You both will be together again in a new everlasting life. RIP Mike and God bless your family.

  7. Nicole Cunningham :

I have known Mikey for many years, he was part of our team at the Lion’s Den Pub in Drumheller.
We kept in touch thru Facebook, he expressed how happy he was in life, getting married to a wonderful lady, becoming a new father.
    Too young, too soon.
I am truly crushed for all who loved him!

I am truly saddened and shocked to hear of this tragedy. I worked with Mike for many years at Drumheller Institution, he was quite humorous, opinionated and charasmatic. He was truly one of a kind. I quite enjoyed listening to his sarcastic observations and remarks. My heart goes out to his wife, children, family and friends. You will be missed.

    Lynn & Family

I knew Mike through work at the Drumheller Institution & he always had a smile on his face & never a bad word to say about anyone. I know that there are no words that can ease your pain & the next few years will be tough to handle. I too lost my husband just 4 short years ago and it is important that you let your emotions take thier course. Cry when you need to & laugh when you can. Remember all the great times together & hold your family tight. Please know that you are not alone & that others share your pain & that you & Connor are in the hearts & prayers of all of his co-workers. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

  11. Lynne, I’ve known you since high school and I wish I could be there for you but know that we are all thinking of you back home. Times like these are so difficult that it makes me wish we were all roaming the halls at St. Robert again. Hug your kids extra tight and I know you will keep Mike’s memory alive. God Bless.

  12. My family’s deepest condolences to Mikes family. You worked so close to where I live yet it’s been years since I’ve seen you. Now that it’s to late I’m not quite sure what to say. Arguing about the Habs, Young Guns ball club & beers we shared, I’ll never forget. Thanks for the memories, see you on the other side.
