December 31, 1920 – August 28, 2011

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Reba Mae Gardner. She passed away peacefully at sunrise on Sunday, August 28th at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Fred J Gardner, her two sons Kenneth (Gayle) and Brian (Valerie), grandchildren Warren, Kelly and Katie, and her sister Velma (Roy) Gaffney. She was predeceased by her brother Tom Johnson, and her twin sister Ruth Donovan.

Reba will be remembered as a wonderful woman with a hardworking nature and a caring spirit. She touched the lives of many and forged meaningful life-long friendships. Through her volunteer work and acts of charity she played a vibrant role in the community. Reba’s humour and zest for life made time spent with her a true blessing. Though her departure leaves an empty place in all of our hearts we will always cherish our memories of the incredible moments that we shared with her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Geoghegan and the dedicated caregivers of Unit 81 at Foothills Medical Centre.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Cousins Brian and Ken and Uncle Fred:

We are so very sad to know that Reba’s sweet smile and wonderful sense of humor are now for only the memories of those who knew and loved her. She was a wonderful Aunt, filling in for our Mom in her absence for these past few years. Know that like yourselves we miss Reba so very much.

In my mind I now see the “The Twins” running hand in hand, always playing and laughing and taking care of one another for all time. Please take care of yourselves and know that we are mourning the loss of the wonderful woman who we were lucky enough to be able to call our Aunt Reba.

    With love always,

    Mike, Summer and Glenna Donovan

  2. Reba was an amazing woman who has led a very full, and rich life. Reba taught all of us by her actions, that life is to be lived and enjoyed, and family is important above all else. As much as we would have loved to have had the opportunity to hear one more joke, spend one more day with her………that was not to be.

The tie between my mom Ruth, and her twin sister Reba, was the tightest of sibling bonds. They were inseparable, and when we lost Mom, Reba remembered Mike and I on every holiday, every birthday, every special occasion. We couldn’t have asked for a better Aunt, or friend, and we’re thankful for every minute we shared with her.

Reba has left a tremendous legacy of love, will be missed so very much, but will never be forgotten.

    Love always,

    Jan Donovan and family
    Longmont, Colorado

    Dear Fred, Brian, Ken

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Reba, and we extend to you and your entire family our sincere sympathy at your loss. While we cannot claim to have known Reba well, on the few occasions that we met her she impressed us as a very loving person and mother-grandmother of her family.

Thankfully, we frequently realized that Reba had an admirable sense of humour that she enjoyed sharing via e-mail with family and friends. Luckily, many of her mailings were forwarded to us by our own family, and we always did enjoy reading them.

In particular, we do have very pleasant memories of a brief visit and dinner outing with Fred and Reba about twelve years ago – en route home to Ontario from the lower mainland. That occasion was a memorable part of our trip, and we cheerfully could have seen them much more often had we lived closer to each other.

Our kindest thoughts, condolences, and love,

    Murray and Mary Ellison
