  2. I have many good memories of working with Dan. His energy and humour were infectious, especially when things weren’t going as well as we would have liked.
Dan was my boss here at Long Lake, but more importantly he earned my respect as a leader.
I didn’t get to call him Danny, but I am proud to say that he became my friend. I enjoyed the rare times when we got to talk about our lives, families and even the odd karate demonstration.
    He will be missed.

  5. Although I only met Dan two years ago, Dan and I shared quite a bit of common ground that we were able to reminisce and laugh about, especially about how things have changed over the years. I am truly saddened with not being able to have our down to earth chats from time to time, and I can only imagine that my saddness is a mere fraction of that incurred by the family that Dan always brought into his stories. May God bless you all and I pray for Dan’s family to find solace that Dan had a positive impact to so many people during his professional life. I won’t ever forget Dan!!! I thank Dan for giving me the opportunity to get to know him.

  7. Although my experience working with Dan was limited in the last year, since we have met, I could always count on him and the commitments he made to me. Dan was on-time, enthusiastic, professional and someone you could tell was guenuine to his core. He brought something extra to the Nexen team and I will always appreciate this.

Do not dwell on the departure; rather, celebrate and be thankful for those points along the journey that you were able to share with Dan! All the best in the days ahead – my thoughts are with his family and friends.

My day started with word of Dan’s passing which was very sad to hear. I then had many memories of Dan throughout the day. Dan was one of the first people that I met when I joined Nexen in 2005. We went on to work together for the next 4 years at Long Lake. I remember Dan’s sense of humour and sincere care that he had for people. After I left Nexen in 2009, Dan would often stay in contact by calling to see how I was and how things were going. Dan, you will be missed my friend. My sincere condolences to Dan’s family.

  15. Dan always had a sparkle in his eyes and smile on his face. He genlty pushed people to be their best and saw the best in them. Although I had only worked with Dan for a short while it was if we had known each other for years…he was that kind of person. I hope through the coming years that all will remeber Dan as he was; simply a loving, kind and giving soul.

  16. I have been sad ever since hearing the news about Dan, but am glad I had a chance to pay my respects yesterday at his celebration of life. I had lunch with Dan within the last month and he was so full joy and optimism. He seemed to have reached a point in his life where he really understood what was important on a deeper level. He spoke of his family and some long standing friendships he valued on the project. Our conversations were never superficial. They were always thought provoking. Dan was such a genuine person and a great personal example to me. I initially met Dan while working on a file with him 6 years ago and we stayed in touch as friends ever since then even though our work lives did not cross paths again. He impacted my life and I will never forget him. I want to share with his family the last email I ever received from Dan on July 4, 2013.

You know. . . Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is… The winter of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is… My friends are retired and getting grey. They move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me. But, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant. But, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we’d be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore… it’s mandatory! Cause if I don’t on my own free will… I just fall asleep where I sit!
And so… Now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I’m not sure how long it will last. This I know, that when it’s over on this earth… It’s over. A new adventure will begin!
Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn’t done. Things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I’m happy to have done. It’s all in a lifetime.
So, if you’re not in your winter yet. Let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don’t put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life. So, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember. And hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!
“Life” is a gift to you. The way you live it is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
Remember: “It is health that is real wealth – and not pieces of gold and silver.
    LIVE HAPPY IN 2013!
~Your kids are becoming you…… But your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
~You forget names…. But it’s OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!!
~You realize you’re never going to be really good at anything…. Especially golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don’t care to do them anymore.
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It’s called “pre-sleep”.
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an “ON” and “OFF” switch.
    ~You tend to use more 4 letter words … “what?”…”when?”… ???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it’s not safe to wear it anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is “sleeveless”?!!!
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
    ~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet…. 2 of which you will never wear.
~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
Stay well, “OLD FRIEND!” Send this on to other “Old Friends!” and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!!
It’s Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.

I’m very sorry to hear that Dan has passed on. We had good fun working together over a number of years. He had a great sense of humour and needled me gently about being Irish on a daily basis. He took his role as manager seriously and I appreciated his help, encouragement and advice. I will remember him grinning with a glint in his eye. God rest his soul. My condolences to the family on this very sad news.

    Kind regards,

    Michelle Anderson

  20. Terry & Kimberly Kadey :

We were saddened to hear about the passing of our friend Dan upon our return from vacation. Unfortunately we missed the celebration of his life on August 11th. If there is one thing we remember about him it is that he was a doer, not just a talker. Earlier this year we had the opportunity to be treated to a fine dinner with Dan and his niece and enjoyed the company and hospitality. Dan, you will most definitely be missed.

  21. My most sincere condolences. I had the pleasure of being Dan’s dive buddy on his first open water dive in Cozumel. His enthusiasm for diving and learning and living was infectious and I’m so blessed for that short time to know him.
