Condolence Messages

  1. Hearing that Mr. Gallagher had passed brought tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat, because he literally saved me from myself, when he was my basketball coach in Yellowknife. I was well on my way to becoming a ne’er-do-well until he cared enough to point out the error(s) of my ways. But he tempered his criticism with strong words of encouragement because he saw the potential within me.

Because he believed in me I completed high school – the first step. Then I attended SAIT, became an Engineering Technologist and worked in the pulp industry for 40 years. I married in my 20’s, fathered a son and a daughter, and am now grandfather to 3, with another on the way. My oldest granddaughter is graduating from high school this month. My wife and I celebrated our 43rd anniversary this year.

Some people leave a lasting impact, whether they know it or not. I have thought about Mr. Gallagher many times throughout the years and in memoriam, I say publicly, thank you to a fine and caring man for a future that would have been very different for me had I not met him. My profound sympathy to his loved ones.
