January 10, 1947 – Montreal, QC
July 5, 2014 – Calgary, AB
After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Joseph Anthony Gale passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the age of 67, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Montreal, Joe grew up right down the street from the Montreal Forum. It was there that he developed his love and passion for the game of hockey and, especially, his beloved Montreal Canadiens.
In 1977, Joe moved his family to Calgary, eventually establishing a long and happy career as a Calgary Transit bus driver. As a driver, Joe took immense pride in safely getting his many passengers to work on time. In later years, Joe and Beth spent much of their weekends and holidays in the Crowsnest Pass. When Joe retired in 2007, he and Beth moved to The Pass fulltime, where he spent his time renovating houses. It was there that he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of building a new house from the ground up, with his own hands.
In the fall of 2013, Joe and Beth moved from The Pass to High River, Alberta so that they were able to be closer to their much loved granddaughters, Malaya and Amara.
Left to mourn his loss is his loving wife and companion of twenty years Elizabeth (known as Beth to friends and family); son Jay (Genevieve); daughter Lori (Brenda); stepson Sean Stordy (Nicole); and his granddaughters Malaya and Amara. He is also survived by his sisters, Eileen Watts, Peggy Prince, Maureen Gale; and his brother Kevin (deceased July 6, 2014). He was predeceased by his first wife Denise Gale (née Phillips); his parents Thomas and Anne; brother Thomas Jr.; and sisters, Ann Mawhinney, Teresa Slater and Diane Murphy.
