October 23, 1926 – Faith, Alberta
December 5, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Ralph Gaetz, beloved husband of Bonnie Gaetz (nee McCaffrey) of Calgary, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the age of 88 years.
Ralph was born in Faith, Alberta, and was the 8th child of 11 born to Ignatz Gaetz and Anna Marie Ehnes. He grew up on a farm in Faith until 1948 after which he relocated to Edmonton and entered the Seminary. God however had a different plan for him, and in 1955 he married his angel Bonnie McCaffrey and began his life journey for the next 59 ½ years that showed the world of a life well lived and full of love. Dad was always there for his children and especially his wife Bonnie.
He spent the majority of his working career in the automotive parts industry finishing it working for the Catholic School system. He retired at 65 to spend more time with his children and grandchildren and to travel with his wife and best friend, as far south as the Caribbean and north to Alaska.
Ralph and Bonnie, among many, were some of the original members at Canadians Martyrs church, and Ralph was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in the Parish. He will always inspire us with the very real courage and strength he showed in difficult times, and the many warm, loving hours in his presence. To the end, he shared with us all, the gifts of his happy smile, his quick wit, unconditional love and a warm hug.
Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, Brother, Son, Ralph…you will be missed by all of us!
Besides his loving wife, Ralph is survived by his 6 children, Gerry (Anne Marie) Gaetz, Raymond (Karla) Gaetz, Thomas (Colleen) Gaetz, Donald (Kim) Gaetz, Diane (Ian) Lockie and James (Cynthia) Gaetz. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Matthew (Stacie), Stephanie, Robert (Kasandra), Steven (Tanika), Travis, Jenna, Carlene, Celine, Adriana, Nicole, Loreena, Glenn, Kincaid and Lincoln; 1 great-granddaughter, Avianna; a soon to be second great grand-daughter; his sister, Bernetta Mastel of Medicine Hat, AB; his in-laws James S. McCaffrey, Tom (Lois) McCaffrey, Jerry Straus, Madge McCaffrey, Gordon Thielen, and Mae Gaetz; stepsisters, Sr. Birgitta Haag and Laura Kuntz; stepbrothers, Matt (Margaret) Haag and Henry Haag; and countless nieces and nephews.
