FRITZ, Arthur Harold

June 19, 1925 – Regina, SK

January 9, 2014 – Didsbury, AB

Arthur Harold Fritz beloved husband of the late Mary Angela Fritz, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the age of 88 years.

Born in Regina, SK, and raised on a farm in Phone Hill, SK. Art joined the Royal Canadian Air Force when he was 19, while stationed in Gander, NFLD, he met the love of his life Angela. Married a short time later, Art and Angela had three children, Arlene, Shirley and Debra.

In 1955, Art moved his family from Yorkton, SK, to Calgary, AB as he obtained a job with the Calgary Herald in the composing room. Seven years later Art moved his family to Airdrie where they lived for 33 years. Art had a great love of the outdoors. He spent at lot of time camping, fishing and hunting in the Kananaskis. He also had a soft heart for small animals and was often caught trying to save many injured birds and other small creatures. Art was an avid marksman and a member of the Airdrie Pistol Club. When Art retired from the Calgary Herald after 34 years of service, his love of electronics and army surplus kept him busy for many years as he continued his business “Arttz Electronics” from home.

Art also enjoyed all kinds of music, especially the bag pipes. Art lived a very full and busy life but could always be counted on when needed, a well respected and loved man by all who had the opportunity of knowing him. His wise council will be greatly missed.

Condolence Messages

  1. Jonathan Levine :

Art was the greatest of my mentors. We met when I was a 14-year-old electronics hobbyist and for many years I had the honour and privilege of visiting him at The Herald and at his house in Airdrie, where we’d usually jaw until the wee hours and I’d invariably leave with a carload of parts and equipment for whatever project I had on the go. After he retired and he eventually wound down the surplus business, I tried to stay in touch and visit, even as he moved around the countryside. I’ll miss him very much.

  2. I met Art about 20 years ago thru ham radio I was living
in Beiseker and came often to Airdrie and bought some
    nice test equipment from Art.
Art was working on HF 20 , 40 and 80 meterband.
Later Art moved to Carbon on a Acreage where he had
    his electronic surplus for sale.
I had many visits there. We talked and laughed a lot
    and had a good time.
Later Art moved to Dinsbury where I visited him too.
My Condolence goes to Arlene,Shirley and Debra.
Art you will be well missed.
    Kees and Eldean
