Edith Friemark beloved wife of George Friemark and mother of Roger, Barbara, Janice and Karen of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the age of 89 years.
Edith was the daughter of Oscar Williams Juckes and Margaret Maude McCuaig and was one of 11 children. She grew up in Melville Saskatchewan and trained as a Registered Nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital and graduated in 1947. In Vancouver she married her first husband Wally Daum and had 3 children. After Wally passed away (1958), she met and married George in 1960 and they moved the family to Calgary where a fourth child was born.
Edith practiced as a Registered Nurse (RN) for over 35 years. She worked in various speciality areas including Public Health, acute care, and rheumatology. For many years she was a nurse at the Calgary General Hospital on 1 South and H5.
Edith had several interests. She was an avid reader, followed current events, and loved to do crosswords. She enjoyed music and singing from a young age. In retirement, Edith and George were adventurous “snowbirds” traveling for several years through Mexico, Central America, the USA and Canada in their customized Greyhound bus.
Edith had a kind, loving, and generous spirit. Throughout her life she cherished her times at family gatherings.
Edith is survived by her son Roger Daum & wife Leslie Skelton; daughter Barbara Raffa & husband Pat; daughter Janice Vickery; daughter Karen Friemark & husband Chris Swyngedouw; and former daughter in law Tabby Daum. She has 9 grandchildren Jacob, Selina, Casey, Hilary, Jesse, Lee, Allison, Tracie, Nick; and 1 great-grandchild Sage, with 2 more expected in 2014. Edith’s is also survived by her siblings Marjorie McKellar, Pebbie McCardel, Isabelle Kotzma, Audrey Duffy, Angus Juckes and his wife Devona, Arlie Stapleton and many nieces and nephews.
Edith is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Margaret (nee McCuaig) Juckes, her siblings Gordon, Beatrice, Mary, Edna, and her first husband Jacob Walter Daum.
A Celebration of Edith’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on June 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A private Graveside Service will be held at a future date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be given to the charity of individual donor’s choice. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the staff and physicians of Unit 32 at the Foothills Medical Centre for the support, compassion and care given to Edith and her family.
We would like to thank the staff of the Col. Belcher care centre and All About Seniors for their loving care over the last few years. You made a difference to her quality of life.
