FRASER, Alexander

October 13, 1935 – Toronto, ON
February 10, 2015 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander Fraser at his home in Calgary on Tuesday, February 10 at the age of 79 years

He was a warm, generous man, giving to a fault, and a tireless workaholic, as would be attested to by everyone who knew him. He will be remembered most for his warm smile, positive outlook and engaging personality. Alex grew up in Toronto, Ontario, becoming a chartered accountant and joining Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, the company with which he would remain until his official retirement in 1996. Obtaining his partnership with the company, he relocated to Calgary, Alberta in 1971 to raise his young family while becoming a solid participant in the community and an integral part of St. Andrews United Church.

Following his long career with Deloitte he settled into private practice and continued to provide expert and caring service for his many clients. An avid baseball fan, he and his loving wife of 53 years Joan, travelled to Phoenix, AZ for spring training every year until recent health issues interrupted their tradition. He also enjoyed his golfing and will be missed by his long-time golf partner, Glen Rushton. In addition to Joan, Alex is survived by three children, Christine (Iain), Ellen (Bill), Darcy (Tracy), his three adoring grandchildren, Braeden, Emily and Sarah Fraser also his brother William (Kathleen). A Celebration of Alex’s Life will be held at Deer Park United Church (77 Deer Point Road S.E.) on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.

In living memory of Alex Fraser, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  7. I joined Deloitte in Calgary in 1978 on the consulting side of the business. Alex was one of the first audit partners I met. He was warm and welcoming during my time in Calgary and provided several bits of advice and guidance that I have remembered throughout my career. In fact I often thought back to Alex when dealing with a personal or business situation that Alex and I had discussed. A wonderful positive man and a great mentor. My sympathies to his family. Cheers Rick Andrews, Guelph, Ontario

  9. I want to express my deepest sympathies to Alex’s family and friends on his sad passing. He was a very special person — friendly, engaging and helpful. In the early 1960’s, I was seconded to the Toronto office of DPH&S from the Johannesburg office. That is where and when I met Alex. He was then focussed on the taxation side of the practice, and as such was of immense help to me in coming to grips with Canadian and Ontario tax regimes. He always found time to lend a hand to someone in need.
With best wishes, Colin Hultzer (now living in Oakville, On)
