FOX, Joan

February 21, 1934 – Westlock, Alberta
December 14, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Joan was born on February 21, 1934 in Westlock, AB and died December 14, 2014 at the age of 80 years.

Over several years, Joan had been greatly diminished by Alzheimers disease and the last two years of her life were spent in care at Father Lacombe Home. Several loving members of her family were with her, giving comfort at the time of her death. Joan will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. As a young woman in Edmonton, AB, she worked for Traders Finance. After this she moved to Portland, Oregon with her family and worked as a legal secretary for counsel at Evans Products. Following this she worked as a secretary at a Catholic hospital in Portland until her retirement. It was during her early years in Portland that she was interested in and later became devotee of the Vedanta Society. She was initiated by Swami Aseshananda, a very holy and highly educated man. Her faith was of great importance to her and remained so for the rest of her life. Joan didn’t marry but was a beloved aunt to her 18 nieces and nephews. She was one of those lucky people who knew how to truly enjoy children and in turn they were drawn to her.

Joan leaves behind her sister Janet Dietrich (Jack) of Calgary, brother Jack Fox (Mieke) of Calgary, sister Lonette Fox of Sacramento, CA, and sister Corliss Rogers (Ron) of Portland, Ore., as well as friends Sandy and Jess Drake of Olympia, WA, Maureen Trullinger of Portland, Ore., and Sherri Lynn Yacoveer of Calgary, AB. Joan was predeceased by her parents David W and Evelyn E. Fox, her sister Patricia (nee) Fox and her niece Dianne Dietrich of Calgary.

At her request, following her beliefs, there will be no celebration of life or memorial. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Joan’s family sincerely thank Dr. Edmond Verbeek and the many skilled nurses and caregivers who gave Joan kind and compassionate care during her time at Father Lacombe Home.

In living memory of Joan Fox, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
