June 29, 1980 – October 4, 2014
It is with a deep sadness that the family of Travis Scott Fowler announces his passing on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
Travis is survived by his treasured daughter, Hailey Fowler (mother Mandy Baldwin); his parents, Clark and Arlene Fowler; his sister, Meredith McNeill (Rob), their children Kya, Kathryn and Jarett; his brother, Kyle, and his fiancée, Katie Fraser, as well as by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Travis was predeceased by his grandparents, Ted and Lila Fowler, and Sumner and Florence MacKinnon.
Travis had an enigmatic and engaging personality that warmed any room he walked into. He was known for his big heart and sense of humor. He was always full of energy and adventure as a child, and you could count on him to be the one in the family photos sporting a scar or two.
Travis enjoyed “tinkering” with anything mechanical or electrical, and was always “improving” the family home devices. He attended SAIT to further this interest and worked in both the computer design and the data communications fields until a work related back injury ended his career pursuit.
His passion for art was always a source of comfort and release for Travis from the challenges he faced in life. He shared this passion with his daughter, Hailey, and you could count on the two of them spending a day drawing or painting together. He was known for sharing his work with friends and family, and loved to see the happiness his talent could bring to others.
During his youth, Travis was an active hockey and soccer and baseball player in the Properties Sports Association. His lifelong battle with asthma slowed him down, but you could still count on him to be on the ski hill snowboarding, or on the lake water skiing or wakeboarding when given the opportunity.
Travis loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted father to his little girl Hailey. The two loved to spend time together at the Science Centre or Zoo, or at Mom and Dad’s trailer. They shared a love of art, movies and stories (and Travis definitely told his parents a number of stories over the years!). He was a loving son to Clark and Arlene, and an adored brother to Meredith and Kyle. He brought laughter and energy into their lives, and that will be sorely missed. He was a caring uncle to his two nieces and nephew, and they knew that a day with him was always going to be full of fun and play.
His childhood summers were spent with treasured and loved cousins, aunts, and uncles in Prince Edward Island and Kelowna. Travis enjoyed having a chance to catch up with distant relatives at family dinners and reunions, and enjoyed his much loved Mom’s home cooking. He will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends.
The family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful paramedics, respiratory technicians, doctors and nurses at the Peter Lougheed Centre who worked so hard to give Travis every chance possible.
A funeral service will be held at McInnis & Holloway, 5388 Memorial Drive N. E., Calgary, at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014. A private interment will follow at a later date.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends wish, they may make a donation for Hailey’s education at any Royal Bank of Canada branch. The account is under the name of her uncle, Kyle Fowler, and the account information is 02089-003-509-532-8. Or donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association (Asthma Program), P.O. Box 4500, Stn. S, Edmonton, AB T6E 9Z9. In living memory of Travis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Park.
