  1. Sharon & Keath Austen :

We are sorry to hear of your loss. Doris was truly a good person, one we will remember fondly. Our sincerest sympathy. She and your Dad were good friends and so supportive of my parents (Albert and Jeanne Gracey) when they needed someone to listen and to lean on. Keath and I also cherish our own memories of both your Mom and Dad.

Dear Doris- that’s what we always called her! We will miss the twinkle in her eyes, the lovely smile, the jokes and sense of humour that she had, all the stories about being the Bishops wife and most of all her heartfelt prayers and her sage advice. What a fantastic woman Doris was. I would call her almost daily when we were on the prayer chain together and I absolutely loved her. We are in California, so we will miss her Celebration of Life service. Our thoughts and prayers will be with all of you on Wednesday. We thank God that we were able to get to know both Doug and Doris. They are finally rejoicing in Heaven together. I had a conversation with Doris last year after my Mom died a week before Easter. I told her that I thought it was a perfect time to pass. She agreed with me. God Bless you Doris. To all the Fords, may God comfort you and Bless you. You are the spirit and heart of your Mom.
    Love, Donna and Gerry

    Stephen, Gloria and family,
We were so saddened to hear of your Mom’s death. No matter how many years we have with them, it is always tough to lose your Mom. I remember your folks well from many years ago in Rosedale and then again in recent years when we were at St James with you. Praying your happy memories will give you comfort at this time. God bless.
    Love, Cheryl and Mike

We send our prayers and love. Doris was a blessing to so many people. She is not only with our Lord but reunited with Douglas. I deeply regret that I am now in a hospice due to a brain tumour and will not be able to attend the service. Peace and love.

  5. Cathy, Jon and Joan Redfern :

    Dear Michael, Kathy and Stephen,
We are all very sorry to hear about your Mom passing away. Her death is one month since our Dad passed away so we all know what you are going through. A blessing in a way but a terrible loss at the same time. We can only know what a great time we had with our parents and can give thanks again and again for the great job they did in steering us right as children. Who of us can forget all the great times we had together when your family was at St. Augustines. Kathy – so many basketball hoops shot in the back parking area; and Michael, legendary films, sets, acting and piano playing; Steve – just an all round great time. Please know we are all thinking of you at this time.

When one of our sons died, Doris and Doug were at our door the next day to help us through a difficult time. When an important family decision had to be made, we would do what we thought Doris and Doug would advise. What great friends and mentors we have all lost, but they are together again.

  9. Rev. Brian D. Way :

    Stephen & family,
I was thankful to attend the service for Doris yesterday and was recollecting to Kathy of times when I was in college residence and Doris would phone and invite me (and others) to supper. Both Doug and Doris took on a special role for me when I moved to Saskatoon at the age of 18 and their gift of hospitality, faith and exampling Jesus’ command to “love one another as I have loved you” are part of my internal “spiritual photo album” about what it means to follow Christ. On the same day as Doris’s service, I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood – something they set the stage for at that young age when at 19 Doug sent me out on a mission in the Diocese. With much thanksgiving for Doris’s life and witness and my prayers as you move forward in her memory.

I felt so sad when I heard that Doris had died. She and Douglas were neighbours when my family lived in Cochrane. It was fun to share notes on gardening with them. They were wonderful role models-two of the finest people I ever met.
    Love, Janet
