FORD – Jacqueline Anne (nee Kerns)

September 29, 1936 – March 18, 2011

Jacqueline Anne Ford’s soul was released to heaven on March 18, 2011 after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. She lived life to the fullest and left nothing undone. Her family and friends will miss her physical presence yet her warm and generous spirit lives on in our memories.

Jackie was born in Edmonton, September 29, 1936, the second eldest daughter of Ethel and Jack Kerns’ six children. Married for 53 years to Lyle, she lovingly nurtured her family: daughter Janiline, husband Brad Hardstaff and children Kyle, Jared, and Kaylyn; daughter Lee-Anne, husband Gary Walker daughter Chalice and stepchildren Jacquie and Brian and their families; and son Dean, wife Felicia and daughter’s Anjali and Suri. Jackie is survived by her siblings Georgie Alexander of Fort Saskatchewan, Joan Kerns, Kathy (Bob) Martel of Edmonton, Gene (Patty) Kerns of Saskatoon, and Robin (Wayne) Depner of Springbank. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Ethel (Brumfit) and Jack Kerns.

Wife, mother, Nana, sister and friend, Jackie had a deep love for her family and those she developed an intimate relationship with. The three words she lived by were unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness and she exemplified all three. Her family cherish memories of celebrations and fun times spent together. She was an inspiration and a mentor to many and an incredible example to follow.

Many words describe Jackie: athletic, adventurous, energetic, leader, country girl, lover of nature, kind, loyal, true friend, supporter of the arts, ‘hostess with the mostess’, traveler, organizer and selfless volunteer. Her passions were her family, making new friends and connecting people. She was committed to serving her community through the Springbank United Church, Lioness Club, Heritage Club and the many other groups and activities she enjoyed with friends. She will be missed by many.

The family would like to extend gratitude to all of Jacqueline’s caregivers especially the nursing staff at the Chinook Hospice for their compassionate and dignified care and support.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Springbank United Church on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Springbank United Church or Ovarian Cancer Canada ( A reception will follow at the Springbank Heritage Club. The internment will be held at a later date with family.

In living memory of Jackie Ford, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200.

  3. Mom, Like everything in life, you tackled this challenge with ovarian cancer with tenacity, vigor and grace. Through our life journey you have taught me so many lessons, but most importantly how to love and serve others. There is a big party in heaven with all that have gone before you. You are whole again, healed with no more pain. I love you to the end of the universe … and back.

You and mom have been such pillars for your family and community. I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose your companion, especially a woman who was such a partner in life, full of adventure and fun, with such capacity to love. May God hold you and mom close sharing your pain and provide comfort in memories together. Love you so much.

  11. My dear friends and family members. I must reflect on the number of angels that walked (maybe flew) with Jackie and myself on her long journey with Ovarian Cancer. Jackies sister Robin, our neighbor in Springbank was always there at a moment’s notice. Her sisters Kathy Martel and Joan Kerns came often from Edmonton and worked untireingly to do whatever was needed and to answer to her every needs. Our neighbor Claudia Westersund, the EMS staff from Station # 71 and the home care nurses from Cochrane were all angels. I have already mentioned my son Dean and his wife and the truly wonderful angels from Chinook Hospice.
The medical staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre are to be elevated to angel status. Doctors Campbell, Nation, Foster and lastly Dr.Dena Radiskaia were very caring and are certianly our angels. The members of the Ovarian Cancer Support Group have all been nominated as angels and some have been elected at this time in our history. I must particularly thank angel Savana (from Brazil) of whom Jackie spoke with admiration. Rev. Carolynne Bouey Shank performed an angel’s task in planning Jackie’s memorial service with the deceased. In closing I must thank the two angels closest to me, my daughters Janiline and Lee Anne who I hold very dear to my heart. God Bless you all, Lyle

  14. Patti Morris and Kevin Kaminski :

We have had the privilege of knowing Jackie, Lyle and their beautiful family as Springbank neighbors. Jackie was a mentor, she was warm, strong and eager for adventure, not to mention kind and always interested in your news.

She and Lyle were a team and together they modeled how we can, and should, be in the world – looking out for one another and through their broad community involvement taking care of all those they new could use a lift … while always having quite a bit of fun at the same time.

Our hearts are with all of you right now as you (and we) celebrate this great life and grieve the loss of this beautiful woman.
