FLEER – Emily Elizabeth (nee Kubasek)

December 27, 1934 – January 4, 2011

It is with great sadness that we wish to inform family and friends of the passing of Emily Fleer; she left us peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday January 4, 2011 at the age of 76.

Emily was an active member at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church. She was involved in many church activities over the years, such as choir, lectors, church cleaning, visiting the sick and her beloved Catholic Women’s League. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. A highlight of her working career was the 6 years she spent working at St. Thomas Moore Parish. The friendships she built there meant the world to her. She also found great enjoyment cheering for her grandson Matthew while he played hockey and playing with granddaughters Robyn and Amanda, a big source of pride and joy for her. We will miss her special family dinners and the homemade bread that she was fond of sending home with us.

She is survived by her loving husband John of 45 years, her children Veronica (Ken) of Langdon, David (Kimberley) and Lisa (Clint) both of Calgary, as well as her grandchildren Matthew, Robyn and Amanda. She is also survived by her brothers Michael (Irene) Kubasek of Burnaby BC, Jim (Marge) Kubasek of Edmonton AB and sister Ludmilla Horgus of Lethbridge AB. She was predeceased by her brothers Thomas and Paul and granddaughter Sarah.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Mark’s Catholic Church (5552 Madigan Drive N.E.) on Friday January 7, at 6:00 PM, with prayers to follow at 7:00 pm.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church (5552 Madigan Drive N.E.) on Saturday January 8, 2011 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow in the church hall. The internment will be held at a later date in a private family ceremony. 4. Brenda Benard Jones and Family :

It was with great sadness that we heard from Veronica about the passing of this very special woman and friend. Emily played an important role in the lives of our family members and we will all miss her dearly. We will never forget the wedding showers she hosted for my sisters and I and we will always remember the close bond of friendship Emily had with our parents, Roger and Shirley Benard. I am sure that Emily was met in heaven by my own Mother as I know they will continue to watch over their families left behind. Please know that you will all be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. God Bless you all.

  5. Carolyn Wilkinson (nee:Burr) :

Dear John, David, Veronica and Lisa and families
I am so sorry to hear of Emily’s passing. I lived in the basement suite of your house on 22nd Ave NE in 1971, just after I arrived in Calgary to teach at Marlborough Elementary school. Your mom was so good to me and I loved having Veronica and David down for a little visit. Your mom always had time for coffee or tea and a little visit with me. She was such a loving mother and a friend to all. I am sure she loved her little grandchildren too. Remember your mother for all the love she had for you. Sincerely, Carolyn

  6. Lori Caron-Kluppelberg :

I am so sorry to hear of Emily’s passing. Having attended grade school 1 through 12 with her children Veronica & David, I remember how welcoming and thoughtful she was to everyone. She baked me a surprise birthday cake when I was 10 just because. I will always admire Emily’s strength and dedication to her faith. She is now resting with her wonderful creator to whom she adored. God bless the Fleer family and all who loved her.

  7. Leslie Barron :

So sorry to read of your Mom’s passing. I attended a Pastry Chef training program at Sait with your Mom in 1992, ran into her in Edmonton a few years later and we shared a nice visit. She was always so positive and full of energy and very patient with the antics of us young people in class. My thoughts are with your family at this time.

Veronica, Ken, Matthew and Family. So very sorry to hear of your loss. We will miss Grandma being a special part of our spectator group at Matthew’s games. Her pride in her grandson was so evident as she cheered along with the rest of us. She was a wonderful lady, so personable and positive.
