FISHER – Rollo (Rolly) Armstrong

May 25, 1931 – November 18, 2010

Rollo Armstrong Fisher, beloved husband of Chris , passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010 after a lengthy courageous battle with numerous illnesses.

Born in Cremona, AB, Rolly’s early life was shaped by hard times and as a result he learned the value of hard work and standing on your own feet.

In 1956 he joined the Calgary Police Service and served as a proud and dedicated member for thirty-five years, beginning by walking the beat, moving up in the ranks to Detective, Staff Sgt. and completing his career as an Inspector. Despite his successes Rolly remained humble and loyal in all walks of his life. His courage and determination became more evident when illness forced him to retire in 1991. He set even a higher standard of never giving up.

Besides family, career, and friends, Rolly had a love of nature and found freedom and peace spending his most memorable times at Water Valley.

Rolly is survived by his wife Chris; five cherished children, Wendy (Steve), Jim (Bonnie), Terri (Shawn), Steven and Shanon; six grandchildren, Aleisha, Lisa, James, Alex, Quinn and Riley; and two great grandchildren, Jared and Makennia. He is also survived by his brother Eric (Gertie); mother-in-law Eva Koselak; nieces and numerous cousins. Rolly was predeceased by his first daughter Debbie; father and mother.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. C. Morse, the Palliative Home Care team especially Cheryl RN, Lana RN, Lisa RT, Nyariay and Wendy of Comcare who filled our days with comfort and compassion. Rolly’s brother Eric elevated the meaning of dedication through his selfless time and assistance.

The soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Rollo Fisher, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

Condolence Messages

  1. Rollo was my cousin who looked after me forever. I will miss him very much. He knocked out my front teeth teaching me how to ride a bike at a very early age of 5. He used to drive the truck in his early years for his Aunt Doris my mom. I would go along for the ride. We use to do the laundry for the Stampede Football team in the old days and Rollo would say “Diane you go into the locker room and pick the football ball player you like the best” and then laugh and laugh. I could never figure out why he laughed. I never went in. Rollo was lots of fun and I will miss him very much.

  2. Michael Dungey :

My deepest sympathy to you all, unfortunately I will be in Arizona for the service, otherwise I would have been there. Rolly and I had some interesting conversations when I was President of the Police Association and he was an Inspector and although we were sometimes at odds he was fair and respectful of the position I took. I know he enjoyed our bouts as much as I did and at the end of the day he always took the high road. Rest in peace my friend.

  7. Very sorry to hear about your loss. I have several fond memories of Uncle Rollo. The Fisher’s and the Kerr’s used to get together each year over the holidays. It was a great time which I always looked forward to. I remember Uncle Rollo as a fun loving and caring man, who always made us feel welcome. The world is a lesser place without him
