July 20, 1923 – May 28, 2012
Muriel Winnifred Finn passed away after a brief illness on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the age of 88 years, with the love of her life, Bill, at her side.
Born July 20, 1923, to Lydia and Alfred Endres, in Rosalind, AB, Muriel lived a full, long, happy, productive life.
Mom was a woman of many accomplishments. She made the world’s best cinnamon buns and dill pickles. She told the funniest jokes and stories, and was the last woman standing on the dance floor. She loved to sing and play piano, and she took delight in a winning hand of cards, especially when her opponent was Bill. She began teaching in a one room school house when she was only 19. She was the kind of teacher that other teachers wanted for their own children and provided wonderful lessons on life to her students, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She and Bill followed the CN Railway throughout Alberta and British Columbia, making friends for life wherever the path led them. She took pleasure in writing and phoning and staying in touch with her friends. She had the longest Christmas Card list. When she and Bill retired, they spent six months a year in Mesa, making even more friends, and enjoying the sunshine and travel. She and Bill moved to Calgary to be closer to their children in 1992.
Mom believed that happiness is within each of us, and that she could find something good in each day, and in every person she met. She lived her beliefs. We will remember her always.
Muriel is survived by her husband, Bill, of 67 years; children Judy Shandro (Ron), Kevin Finn (Michele Fraser), Mike Finn (Suzette Knudsen); grandchildren Steve Shandro, Bill Shandro(Chelsea), Elizabeth Finn, Sam Finn, and Jillisa Finn-Fraser; great-grandchildren Krista Shandro and Connor Shandro; sister-in-law Margaret Yelle; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many friends are left to remember her with love.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Harold and Leon Endres, and sister Dorothy Candlish.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1600 Acadia Drive SE. Calgary, AB on Tuesday, June 5th, 10:30 a.m. Thank you to EMS, medical staff at the Rockyview Hospital and Foothills Hospital, and special thanks to Dr. Marius Conradie. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friend’s so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of your choice in mom’s name.
