FINCH, Zaidee

December 15, 1920 – England
January 7, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Zaidee Finch, beloved wife of the late Edward Finch of Calgary, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the age of 93 years.

Zaidee was a nurse during WWII when she met and married Edward Finch, a RAF pilot, on September 23, 1944, in Bournemouth. England. The family, with four children, immigrated to Canada by a steamship, the Ille de France, in July 1953. They settled in Edmonton, then Yellowknife for a year, before moving to Calgary in 1961.

Zaidee was a prolific artist, an active member of the Calgary Artist Society, whose paintings of the prairies and broad skies were notable. She enjoyed travel, gardening, family and a good laugh, and would always be game for trying anything at least once.

Zaidee is survived by her four children, Dr. Peter (Kathy) Finch and Gordon (Margaret) Finch of Calgary, Helen (Angelo) Bossio of Edmonton, and Terry Finch of Clearwater, Florida. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jennifer McArthur, Kirsten Kish, Stephanie Cline, Michael Bossio, Tracy From, Kelsey Finch, David Bossio, Whitney Mercer, Christina Finch, and eleven great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held in the spring when the marigolds are blooming. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A special thanks to all the staff at the Beverly Care Centre Glenmore especially her companion caregivers.

In living memory of Zaidee Finch, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  3. Frances Chapman :

to the family of Zaidee –
Zaidee was a dear friend, as was Ed to my husband Fred and me. How many times we travelled together, Zaidee and I would paint and the guys did their thing.
Zaidee touched many lives through the art world. She was with Centennial Gallery for twenty-four years. Those who worked with her on the hanging committee remember her sharp eye for what works and what doesn’t. Her painting of the prairie sky cannot be matched. So many memories = my heart-felt condolences to you.
    Frances
