FILIAC, Agnes Violet “Vi”

January 23, 1924 – Regina, Saskatchewan
January 9, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Vi Filiac at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary, on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the age of 90 years.

Vi left her job as a telephone operator in Regina to join the Canadian Armed Services in 1944 and was discharged in 1946 after the end of the war. Vi returned west from Toronto to work in Calgary, she joined Woodwards Stores in Kelowna and then with Woodwards in Calgary; she ended her career after a short period with Eaton’s. After ending her career as a sales clerk she looked after her close friends Marion Fast and her mother Kate Cole.

Vi honoured her friends with numerous endowments to the Zoo, Mount Royal University, The faculty of Medicine for the University of Calgary and for the University of Saskatchewan Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon.

Vi was a quiet, unassuming lady who supported her country, community and educational institutions.

Vi is survived by numerous close friends and her cousin Loretta Jackson of Saskatoon. She was the last member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Mathilda; and her brothers, Clarence, Gordon and Edward.

A memorial service will be held in Vi’s honour at the Bethany Care Centre (916- 18A Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta) at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through
