FIELDING, Christine Mary

June 4, 1962 – Red Deer, Alberta
April 30, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Christine Fielding of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the age of 51 years.

Christine was a loving daughter, caring sister, and devoted aunt. She dedicated much of her life to educating children at French immersion schools including Banff Trail Elementary where she touched the lives of generations of students. She had a sense of adventure: she studied in Quebec, travelled abroad and loved to hike, particularly in the Rocky Mountains. Christine’s enthusiasm for genealogy and her unique family history encouraged her to journey to unusual locations. She had a passion for a wide-range of music and played her piano in every free moment. Her valiant battle with lymphoma ended suddenly.

Christine is survived by her mother Bridget; her sister Helen; brother Paul; brother-in-law John; sister-in-law Jenn; niece Harley; nephew Zander; and her many friends and students.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Christine benefitted greatly from Wellspring Calgary. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Christine’s honour would be greatly appreciated and may be made directly to Wellspring Calgary, 1404 Home Road N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T3B 1G7, Telephone: 403-521-5292, www.wellspringcalgary.com.

In living memory of Christine Fielding, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  20. Marlene Harris :

To the Family of Christine Fielding,
I was fortunate to have known Christine over the course of many years as I worked for her from time to time as a substitute teacher in her classes at Banff Tr. El. School. With her consistently cheerful and conscientious attitude, she never gave much indication of being so seriously ill. I always looked forward to substituting for her because she left such detailed and interesting work for her students to do. I was saddened and very surprised to read of Christine’s passing in yesterday’s Calgary Herald. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend her service this Tuesday and therefore send my condolences and best wishes to all of Christine’s surviving family. The photo of Christine that appeared in her obituary is an excellent portrayal of her friendly and welcoming personality, just the way we will always remember her.
    With sympathy and best wishes,
    Marlene Harris

Christine lit up the world with her smile, enthusiasm and dedication to her students and colleagues. Though I only taught with her for 6 months at Banff Trail, Christine and I shared a love for the music of the Calgary Philarmonic Orchestra. Each time we saw each other at the CPO, she smiled and we exchanged our news. Her warmth, compassion and sincere affection for her friends was ever-present. Christine touched the lives of so many. She will be missed. My heart goes out to her family and close friends in this time of loss. Fortunately she created so many memories which we will cherish.

    Hello Bridget,
Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of your daughter, Christine. Her obvious commitment to her young students was a reflection of her family’s history of excellence in all of their endeavours.
Our son Michael, who attended school with the girls, so enjoyed his many discussions with Christine’s dad, who boasted constantly about his daughters and Paul.

    May she rest in peace.
