Italo Ficaccio, passed away on November 24, 2008 surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 94 years.
Italo was born May 5, 1914 in Sezze, Latina, Italy. Italo immigrated to Calgary in 1953 and was joined by his wife and son in 1954. Italo worked in Calgary at Home Lumber for many years, before working as a custodian for the University of Calgary. During this time Italo pursued his passion as a barber, where he obtained his diploma. Italo was a constant learner, who worked hard to teach himself welding, carpentry , plumbing and virtually any other trade. He was an inventor by nature, creating his very own Lotto 6-49 machine. Italo was a comedian of sorts and story teller. His greatest passion was his greenhouse, where he grew many plants common to his homeland.
Italo is survived by his son, Salvatore and daughter-in-law, Elisabetta; grandchildren, Marco (Kristy), Sonia (Luigi), Laura, and Michael (Leah McDonald); great grandchildren, Paige and Domenic. Brother, Ulderico (Eda) Ficaccio. Sisters, Elide Pietrocarlo, Antonietta Massocco, Sister-in-law, Maria Ficaccio as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Italo was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Paolina on September 23, 2008. Sisters, Anella, Marietta and Emelia. Brothers, Adamo and Aurelio.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum.
