FERGUSON, William Alexander (Bill), B.A., LL.B

May 24, 1939 – August 12, 2012

It is with great sorrow the family of much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, William A. (Bill) Ferguson, announces his peaceful passing following a courageous fight against melanoma on Sunday. August 12, 2012 at the age of 73, at the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks, AB.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Bill graduated from McMaster University in 1961, before attending Osgoode Hall Law School and being called to the Bar in Ontario in 1966. He practiced law in Sudbury as a partner at Ferguson MacMillan before relocating to Calgary in 1982. Bill resumed his law career in Calgary, setting up private practice in the Northwest, and retired at the end of 2011.

A northern Ontario boy at heart, Bill could always be counted on to lead the charge, especially if it involved skiing, golfing, or debating. He loved traveling, especially to Hawaii, but his heart was always tied to the family camp just north of Sudbury. Bill’s infectious smile and playful manner attracted people from all walks of life, many of whom remained loyal friends for decades. He cherished those he loved and was cherished by them in return.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Betty; children Cori, Scott, Jared (Dani), and Jodi (Chris); step-children Darren (Kari) and Chad (Jennifer); grandchildren Sebastien, Mikah; step-grandchildren Lucy, Eamon, Graham and Taylor; sisters Lee and Cathy, and many nieces and nephews, who all loved him dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Not a good summer for the Ferguson men! So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. It must have been a very difficult journey these last few months for all. Take solace in the time you were able to share, to say the things you needed to say and to have had the opportunity to let Bill know how much he is loved. I’m certain this leaves a great void in your lives which can never be filled. Our hearts are with you!
