August 11, 1929 – August 27, 2012
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kaye Faunt at the Cochrane Bethany Care Centre on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the age of 83 years.
Kaye was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Holly and Ray Hicks and was raised in Vegreville and the Coalbranch, in Alberta. While enrolled in Nursing at U of A, she met Bob, whom she married August 13, 1949. After settling in N.W. Calgary, Bob and Kaye raised their five sons and spent many wonderful years in Banff Trail, where they were strong members of the community, participating and supporting their boys in hockey and baseball, running the concessions, playing bridge and square dancing. Mom was also a strong member of Banff Trail Ladies Auxilliary, and Kaye and Bob were keen supporters of Tim’s swimming at the Foothills and UofC Swim Clubs.
Mom loved to dance, paint and was a voracious reader. She also loved to camp throughout Alberta and BC with her family, and her boys have many fond memories of summers spent on the farm on the Old Man River, camping at Wasa Lake and fishing at Clearwater, BC. Mom and Dad loved their travels to New Zealand and Hawaii. In later years, following Dad’s retirement, they moved to Didsbury, Alberta, and met many new friends in the communities of College Green and Aspen Ridge Lodge. In 2008, they moved to the Cochrane Bethany Care Centre.
Kaye is survived by her loving and devoted husband Bob, of 63 years; her children, Dave (Sandy), Robin (Maureen), Allan (Marnie), Brian (Jackie) and Tim (JoAnne Collinson). Kaye also leaves behind to mourn 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
The family gratefully acknowledge the overwhelming support and compassion of the Bethany residents and staff. A celebration of Kaye’s life will be held Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 2:30pm at McInnis and Holloway Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle, N.W.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cochrane Bethany Care Centre or Canadian Diabetes Association. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via www.mhfh.com
