EVANS, William “Bill” George

October 18, 1933 – Alderwood, ON
November 17, 2014 – Calgary, AB

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Evans on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the age of 81 years.

Born in Alderwood, ON to Claude and Kathleen Evans, Bill spent his formative years in Orillia, ON, where he met his wife, Beatrice (Edna) Simcoe. They married in 1956 and shortly thereafter, they had their first child, “Sandy” Norma and then their son Bill. Six years later, they were blessed with their youngest daughter Jeannette. Once Jeannette was born, it was decided they would move out west to Calgary, where the family remained.

Bill enjoyed ice fishing and spent several hundred hours in icehouses in the middle of Ontario lakes over the years. Later on in his life, he discovered the joy of bowling and eventually joined a bowling league, where he revelled in the camaraderie and competition the league afforded him. He and his wife also enjoyed going dancing at the legion, visiting family, and entertaining in their home.

In the early 80’s, Bill’s youngest son, Joseph, joined their family, which allowed Bill and Beatrice to enter into parenting a second time. Throughout the years, Bill worked as a labourer, most notably at the Western Co-op Fertilizer plant, until he retired early, because of silicosis.

After Bill retired, he spent his life raising his youngest son, and enjoying time with his children and grandchildren. He always had a smile, a quick wit and enjoyed rough housing with his grandchildren. Bill and Beatrice were always available for their grandchildren’s plays and school events and tried to be there whenever possible.

In the last ten years, Bill had struggled with cancer and Alzheimer’s. Despite these struggles he was still able to experience things like travelling to the Crowsnest Pass with his grandchildren, watching his grandchildren marry, and meeting his great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Beatrice; his brother, John Evans; his sisters, Marie McKenzie and Dianne Kingsberry; his children, Bill (Rosanna) Evans, Jen (Tim) Tiefenbach, and Joseph (Monique Hoang) Evans; his grandchildren, Suzanne (Thomas) Bullen, Brad (Marie) Knecht, Tabitha (Brad) Warholm, Bill (Kate) Evans, Brandon Evans, and Kyle Evans; his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Dominic and Alexa; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Claude and Kathleen Evans; his brothers, Donald Evans, Gordon Evans, and Victor Evans; his sister Joan Fraser; and his daughter, “Sandy” Norma Knecht.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Community Hall at South Hill Mobile Home Park (9090 24 Street S.E.) on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 9:00 am. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.

In living memory of Bill Evans, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-248-8585.

Condolence Messages

  1. Beatrice and Joey and families.
So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. We had some good times with the young boys growing up in the trailer park. I still remember my cat going for a walk around the park with Bill in the evenings. When he passed my house he would tell the cat to go home, he needed to go home now too.
Once again, sorry for your loss.
    Susan
