April 22, 1931 – September 8, 2012
Dee was born April 22, 1931, as Daphne Power (She didn’t like the name Daphne, and changed it to Dee). Although originally from Norwood, a suburb of London, England, her childhood was mostly in Malvern, Worcestershire; she always considered it to be her hometown. She married Leslie William Evans in 1953, and lived in Southern England; in 1961 they spent a year in Nigeria, where her husband’s company were supervising the building of a railroad (he was a civil engineer).
Returning to England in 1962, she lived in Kent and then Surrey Counties, immigrating to Canada in 1976 with her family. Dee loved Alberta, and also had a passionate love for animals (as her pets passed away, she kept urns containing their ashes; it’s nice to think that now she is together with them for eternity).
During a recent trip to England to visit her sister, they did some research into family history, and Dee discovered that she had two half-sisters, who she met and kept in contact with until her passing. She was thrilled to meet them, and to get to know them.
Dee is survived by her sister Ann; half-sisters Ruth and Margaret; son Marc; daughter Judy; daughter-in-law Ginette (who she considered a daughter); grandsons Ross and Scott; and several nieces and nephews. She was also thrilled to learn that she was about to become a great-grandmother. (Special thanks to her niece Niki in Australia, who Dee visited on more than one occasion).
Dee will be remembered as a sweet, caring woman who always put others’ needs before her own. She was a special person, and will be sadly missed.
A private family celebration will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
