April 24, 1926 – September 17, 2011
Aganeta “Nettie” Enns beloved wife of Fred of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the age of 85 years.
Nettie was born in southern Russia and came to Canada in 1926. She spent her childhood and teen years in southern Saskatchewan, completing high school in Rosthern, SK. She and Fred were married in 1945. For the next fifteen years, Nettie was a full-time homemaker. In 1960, when the girls were grown, she pursued her own studies at the University of Alberta, earning a B.A. degree. Nettie did a lot of volunteer work, first as the librarian of the patient library at the University of Alberta Hospital and then in the gift shop at the Cross Cancer Clinic. She loved the game of bridge, she skated until well into her 80’s and she was an avid reader of a wide range of literature. Nettie had a talent for making friends, and she loved to travel, visiting most major countries of the world. Her culinary skills, especially her bread-baking, endeared her to her grandchildren.
Besides her loving husband Fred, Nettie is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gwendolyn Valcourt, Louella (David) Cronkite and Laura (Donald) Hoyda; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family.
