November 15, 1932 – May 1, 2012
Gordon passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home in Calgary on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the age of 79.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Patricia, his son Bruce (Carolyn) of the Isle of Man, daughter Nancy Kiranas (Peter) of Okotoks, daughter Marion Burnyeat (Michael) of Calgary, and six adored grandchildren (Spencer, Fraser, Sophie, Jack, Thomas and Brian), his only brother, Dr. Jon Elliott (Mandy) from Hamilton, New Zealand, and many relatives in Vancouver, Toronto and New Zealand.
Gordon was born in Vancouver, attended Vancouver College and graduated from the University of British Columbia. He left a lasting mark on the T. Eaton Company, the new home builders of Alberta, the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Mount St. Francis, St. Mary’s University College, Western Orthopedic and Arthritis Research Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Project Alpha, Sleep Apnea Society of Alberta and many others. Gordon helped raise a great deal of money for charities throughout his career.
Gordon (Dad, Papa, Big Bro or Uncle Gordie) was a wonderful family man, husband, father and friend. His cup was always half full. He was a great mentor of many friends of his children as well as many young executives and leaders in the not-for-profit world. Gordon was always there for support and advice.
Gordon enriched the lives of many, including his great friends at the Wednesday Winos, his golfing buddies at Earl Grey Golf Club, the bridge league and wine committee at the Ranchman’s Club where he served as President (oh he loved that Club!), HUDAC, Calgary Flames and the arts community of Calgary.
He will truly be missed by friends of all ages. His family is so very proud of him.
