Condolence Messages

  1. Greg Shyba :

    Dear Pat and family,

My heartfelt sympathy on Gordon’s passing.

I had the pleasure of knowing Gord for over 30 years. We first met as members of the Board of Directors of Alzheimer Calgary. As a young lawyer and with little experience in the not-for-profit sector, Gord took me under his wing and became a mentor to me. Over the years, we kept in touch and, just recently, Gord was helping me develop and execute a fund development project for the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area. Gord was an inspiration to me and I will also miss not only his expertise, but his unbridled enthusiasm raising money for the benefit of the community.

We will be planting a tree in his honour at the Cross Conservation Area.

  7. Carol Taylor Ryder :

    Dear Elliott Family

I first met your beloved husband, father and grandfather 40 years ago as a management trainee at Eatons and worked under his leadership till he left Eatons and I was a department manager by that time. Gordon was a larger than life gentleman who was a highly gifted retailer with vision and a wonderful leadership style mixed with fun and enthusiasm. On a fun note, I remember him going down the aisle of the fashion floor using the rolling rack with a bottom rack as a scooter saying a cheerful hello to us all. He loved life and staff loved him.
Our lives crossed many times over the years in the not for profit world and he never lost his spirit for life and making the world a better place.
He left his mark as a man in this world and you could ask for nothing more!
May you have comfort in your many memories in the days and years to come.
My husband Larry joins me in our thoughts to his family.
    Carol (Taylor) Ryder

  9. Sheila Carruthers :

Please accept my sincere condolences. Gordon was an inspiring man I greatly respected. He went out of his way to help me understand the Calgary community when I first moved here with my job, which included working with community leaders, such as him. I often think of what he would do when working on a challenge. Reading some of the other condolence notes, I believe we are all the better for having known him.
