ELLERGODT – Ronald (Ron) Victor

January 31, 1925 – June 1, 2010

Ronald Ellergodt went to be with his Lord on Tuesday June 1, 2010 peacefully at the Bethany Care Center, at the age of 85 years.

Ron was born on January 31, 1925, the oldest of 3 sons, to Edwin and Ethel Ellergodt, general store owners in Macklin, SK and Torrington, AB. During his high school years he helped his parents run the store and was an avid hockey player. He graduated from Prairie Bible Institute and began a missionary career in 1955. Ron married his wife, Anne, in Malaysia, in 1957 and they were blessed with 5 children. They served together in church planting in several small remote villages in Malaysia and then in literature work in Hong Kong from 1971-1974, where he established 3 book stores. Upon returning to Calgary in 1974, Ron started and managed Christian Publications bookstore on 17th Ave working diligently there until his retirement. Ron was an encourager, always having a word of affirmation and hope for others. He was a man who loved the Word of God, with a brilliant mind for memorization. He will always be remembered as a man who prayed fervently for his family and the world. His desire was to see his God proclaimed throughout the nations. His life was a blessing to many people, from Canada to Malaysia and Hong Kong. He loved to speak Cantonese to the many Chinese people he came in contact with over the years. He’ll fondly be remembered for his laughter and his snoring, his love for dessert, getting a bargain & saving a buck, going on walks with his wife, his library of books and seeing God’s blessing in almost everything.

Ron was predeceased by his wife of 49 years in 2006 and by his brothers Ed & Den. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his 5 children: Bruce (Julia), Becky (Harvey), Sandy, Myrna (Buzz), Brent (Carol) and his 12 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through A special thanks to the staff on unit 6/Sunshine Point at the Bethany Care Centre for their care and love. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Gideon’s, Telephone: (1-888)-482-4253, .

In living memory of Ronald Ellergodt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

  2. Bob & Carol Ellergodt :

There are so many things one would like to say at a time like this, but the words just don’t seem to come together.

Ron was a wonderful man, full of character, good will, enthusiasm and always had a smile. Although we did not spend as much time together as we would have liked over the years, the time we did spend together as a family was full of fond memories and stories that we will cherish forever.

Ron and Ann are now happily together again. I am sure they missed each other dearly during their short absence from each other. In addition, one can only wonder if the three boys, Ed, Den and Ron are not creating another book of stories and events similar to those of Macklin Saskatchewan and Torrington Alberta.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to all of you and pray that the wonderful memories will help you through this difficult time.

    Bob, Carol, Curtis & Jennifer

  3. I remember Ron used to come to our Swift Current, SK Alliance Church and brought CPI Books, Sunday School Gospel Light Material etc. and I remember Ron running CPI in Calgary on 17 Ave before they moved it to 9th Ave. I always enjoyed contacts with him, his friendliness, stories and humor.

Then, such a small world, after all these years of about 20 yrs, of losing contact he moved into Bethany Care Centre next door to Dad, I was very happy for his presence there, adding to the guys on 6th Floor and making it as one staff described it , “The Happy Table!”. Ron looked so well, the same as when I had last seen him, he had just lost current memory, which was probably why he was admitted to Bethany 6th Floor; but he still had a very good past memory! And he still always had a word of witness of God’s goodness, blessing and positive encouragement from life’s lessons in adversity.

A memorable, kind. loving, sensitive and encouraging person indeed! A real man of God! He made a positive influence on those he had contact with.
