EGER, William Garth

September 20, 1943 – North Battleford, SK
July 6, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Garth Eger passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the age of 70 years, following an extended illness.

Garth will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by many, including his wife, Micki; his beloved children, David and Janet; the lights of his life – his grandchildren – Ben and Megan Eger; his brother Cameron (Lois) Eger, his brother-in-law Glenn Cox (Kay), and his friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents George and Doris, and his brother Doug.

Born in North Battleford, Garth attended The Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, and the University of Saskatchewan prior moving to Calgary in 1965. His career in real estate was well-suited to his warm and outgoing personality, while his love of friendly competition and his keen mind allowed him to attain his Life Master designation in bridge, which he enjoyed as a lifelong pursuit.

Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the physicians, nurses and staff of Unit 47 at Rockyview General Hospital for their compassionate care, and to Dr. Gorrie and his wonderful team who have been so supportive over their years of care. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.

In living memory of Garth Eger, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Janet, my thoughts, prayers and heart-felt condolences go out to you, your Mom Micki, your brother Dave and family. I feel blessed to have met your Dad last summer and proud to have given him a laugh or two. He was a character, as you say, and he will be missed. I wish all of you strength and peace in the knowledge that he passed surrounded by your love. Most respectfully, Heather.

    Miki, Dave and my Janet

    My deepest condolences.
Each of us is the sum of our life experiences – the product of our times
but also how we pass these on, often unknowingly
to those we meet on our path
    those we simply know
but mostly to those we love
and importantly to those that love us.

It is often said that we are merely ripples in a great pond
but this fails to note how widely these ripples carry
and how much is touched by this wake
it is this that makes the brevity of a life an eternity
just as an impression can last a lifetime

I knew Garth only briefly, in comparison to his friends and family. In this time I saw he possessed resolve and was a truly independent thinker but I also saw that these traits now live on in his pride – his children Dave and Janet.

For me Garth was a true westerner, a mixture of toughness and gallantry while reserving that special place in his heart of hearts for his history, his West and especially his love, partner and at the end lifeline – his wife Miki.

Life can be a long trail, a mix of sugar and salt to sustain and temper us as the path passes the joys and trials that make us who we are – at his sunset I wish him well in the Hereafter.
    Joe Mancuso

My thoughts and prayers go out to you Micki and family!

Anyone that knew Garth was blessed as he always showed stamina and strength but he was such a Gentleman!, and I know that he and Willie are sharing!!?, and they are no doubt “battling” over a “hand of bridge, or a “pool” shot !

May you be comforted by the many thoughts of those who care, Karen.
