Miriam (Mimi) Dvorkin, of blessed memory, passed away at the Renoir on Saturday June 17, 2006, at the age of 92 years.
Mimi was born in Calgary in 1913 to adored parents Billy and Reva Bercov. She was active in Calgary Jewish communal activities for many years, was past president of Hadassah and contributed much time and energy to the National Council of Jewish Women fund raising projects, especially their thrift shop Bargain Bazaar. Mimi was a wonderful cook, card player, and flower arranger, she enjoyed travelling, took pleasure in her shell craft hobby and was an all around classy lady.
Mimi is remembered with love by her children; daughter Rena Cohen of Tsfat, Israel; daughter-in-law Judy Dvorkin of Calgary; daughter Tish Dvorkin and son-in-law Dixon Baird of Mesa, Arizona; and son Gary Dvorkin and daughter-in-law Fran_oise Andrianoff-Dvorkin of Mississauga, Ontario. Also keeping their grandmothers memory alive are her nine grandchildren, Ronna, Harley, Susan and Jeff Cohen; Corey Dvorkin and his wife Corri Dvorkin-Barr; Tracey Leyland and her husband David Leyland; and Tevy, Josh, Jeremy and Lisa Dvorkin. Mimi’s four great-grandchildren, Liam Cohen, Natassia Dvorkin, and Kate and Jane Leyland also carry on her legacy. Also remembering her are her sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Rio Sollway; sisters-in-law Maria DeVorkin and Trudy Dvorkin; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mimi was predeceased by Ted, her beloved husband of sixty years; her cherished son Rick, and her dear sister Annette Goldstein.
Graveside Service will be held at the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.), on Tuesday June 20, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the caregivers and staff at the Renoir who provided so much support to Mimi over the many years she lived there and through her illness.
