DUTCHUK, Dennis Ernest

December 3, 1937 – Drumheller, Alberta
June 22, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta

Dennis Dutchuk was surrounded by family all week and when he passed away Saturday morning at the Foothills Medical Centre after a brief and sudden illness.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother Mary; father John; brother Billy; brother-in-law Johnny; and grandson Jacee Dennis. He is survived by the love of his life Penny of fifty-two years; his two adoring daughters, Kerri (Jeff) and Denise (Kent). Dennis’ passion and priority in his life were his grandchildren Torri, Tayden, Zachary, Kherson, and Jonah. Dennis was also a fantastic brother to Jean and Stan (Janet), cousin, uncle and friend to many.

Dennis was born and raised in Drumheller, AB. He lived there until 1956 when he moved to Calgary and met and married his wife Penny. They built a house in Brentwood where they raised their two daughters. From a young age he was very active in many sports. This participation continued well into his adult life including his passion for watching professional sports. This passion was passed on to his grandchildren who ski, play soccer, volleyball, basketball, ball hockey, and hockey. And Grandpa was always there to cheer them on. Dennis was a hardworking man his entire life. He was a simple, loving man whose priority in life was family. He loved to golf and curl. To quote the grandchildren he was cool, awesome, friendly, reliable and irreplaceable.

As a family we wish to express an incredible Thanks to Dr. Stuart Hutchinson and Nurse Jenn in the CICU at the foothills hospital. We are so fortunate that you were there for Dad this week.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Dennis’ name directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 781-1978, www.heartandstroke.ca or the Jacee Denis Memorial scholarship at Delta West Academy, 414 11A Street Calgary, Alberta T2E 4P3.

    Dear Penny & family,
We were surprised and saddened to hear of the passing of Dennis. Lloyd knew Dennis as an apprentice plumber and followed his life through the plumbing industry; also connected with his and Penny’s involvement in girls softball. I, Carol, grew up in the town of Rosedale, so knew of him there as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.
