1930 – 2011
John passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, after a long illness with cancer.
He was born in Climax, Saskatchewan on Jan.10, 1930. He received his Doctor of Optometry Degree at Pacific University in Oregon, and in 1958 opened his practice in Calgary. His profession became his passion, and he diligently served his patients for 50 years. John married Larysa Mostowyj in 1961. Together, they had three children, Mark (Trina, stepdaughters MiRanda and Mileah), Matthew (daughter Victoria), and Juliana (Peter, children Alexander and Sonya). John also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Olga Mostowyj, and brother Ernie Dumka with wife Gisela. A humble, kind and gentle man, living his life purposefully for God with integrity and love, John will be remembered for his bright smile and open heart for those around him. The family would like to thank all the loving people at the Foothills Country Hospice who made John’s last days comfortable and peaceful. Thank you also to the Palliative Care and Home Care Nurses who helped us in this long journey.
