July 18, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Heaven received the most gracious gift on July 18th with the sudden passing of Gabe Dubé. He was the most beloved husband and inspiration to wife Myrna for 50 years. They shared an idyllic love that will never pass. Gabe was the wonderful father to five children, their spouses and 11 cherished grandchildren: Dan Dubé (Pat) and their children Sam and Alicia; Monique Dubé (Todd Pugsley), Emily and Thomas; Craig Dubé (Nancy), Carson and Kennedy; Mirette Dubé (Scott Alcock), Sydnie, Matthew and Chase; Michala Hegi (Colin), Chloe and Sadie.
Gabe was a man of great humility and integrity, grateful for the love and respect given by those closest to him.
He was a highly intelligent, educated man and lived his life with strong core values, high morals and unquestionable beliefs. He was a spiritual man with a profound faith in God. Gabe communicated his love for his precious wife and family each day through his deep caring, encouragement, generosity and compassion. He loved seeing people smile. Gabe’s beautiful creativity as an artist, poet, vocalist, musician, and writer made every environment feel warm and welcoming.
Gabe went from one adventure to the next: from building a cabin in the Shuswap, to his favourite trips to Las Vegas with Myrna.
Papa cared deeply for each one of his 11 grandchildren celebrating each of their talents and finding humour in their mischievous moments.
Gabe was a life-long educator, both as a principal and as a teacher. He will always be respected and remembered for his passion for teaching children how to recognize their innate abilities, build on their strengths and celebrate their successes. In his own oft-spoken words: “there was never a child that lacked potential.”
Gabe had life-long relationships with close friends that stood the test of time. He was the son of Marc and Marguerite Dubé, and the oldest of 11 children. His legacy will live on through all of us until we are together again.
In Gabe’s memoirs, he wrote: “I am a loved man. I am a happy man. My joys in life have been simple yet profound. My family has made all the difference.”
