DRUMMOND, Burnell Alexander

In Memorial

June 20, 1920 – December 20, 2011

Burnell Alexander Drummond of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital with his loving daughters, Lynn Goode and Janet Drummond by his side on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the age of 91 years. He had suffered complications caused by pneumonia.

Burnell was born at Reid Hill. He schooled at Prospect Slope and rode his pony to school. A love of farming kept him in the Vulcan area on the family farm. Almost self sufficient in his farming operation, he was also part carpenter, mechanic, welder and electrician. In the early days he commercial ice fished on Lake McGregor. Although he retired in 1986, the family joke was that “he didn’t retire, he just parked his combine one day and went to town”. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying horseshoes, shooting pool, curling and golf. Burnell even achieved two holes in one. He loved his golf, but farming was his passion. In retirement, he continued to visit the farm regularly and work for “his girls”. Burnell was a life time member of the BPOE.

Besides his loving daughters Lynn and Janet, Burnell is survived by Dora Drummond of Lethbridge. He was predeceased by his first wife Doreen; parents George Elmer Drummond and Maggie Opal Bowie Drummond; and sister Marjorie in 1930. He was also predeceased by Ramona June FitzPatrick, his closest cousin and mother of Carol FitzPatrick and Craig FitzPatrick.

No service will be held at Burnell’s request. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Flowers respectfully declined, however, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

In living memory of Burnell Drummond, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

Lynn & Janet, we were so-o saddened to hear about the passing of your dad!
We have many fond ‘childhood’ memories with your family, and it’s depressing to realize we are the next generation! At least your dad is at peace, and I’m sure he is in heaven ‘catching up ‘ with our dad – - – - they will have lots of chuckles together!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Hugs from Elaine, Ken, Reta, and Ruth
