DREW, Gordon Albert

October 16, 1922 – January 16, 2012

It is with great love and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gordon Albert Drew on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Gordon lived his life to the fullest and loved being around his family and friends. Gordon was born and raised in Calgary. At the age of seventeen his yearning for adventure led him to join the Canadian Navy where Gordon served through WWII. Upon his return from the high seas to Calgary he married his love Anne Verbunt. Gord and Anne were married for 39 years where they raised four children. Over those blissful years Gord and Anne enjoyed many great times with family and friends from Rockyford to Victoria where many adventurous stories can be told. Upon his retirement Gordon enjoyed numerous summers travelling throughout the western provinces with his dear friend and companion Nellie Chabra and more recently enjoying the summer sunsets in Nordegg together. Gordon gave back by spending many enjoyable hours volunteering for St. James Catholic Church, the 1988 Winter Olympics, Royal Canadian Legion and the Poppy Fund. Gordon is predeceased by his wife Anne Drew, his sister Iris and his brothers, Jim and Colin Drew. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his four children JoAnne (Colin) Jackson, Judy Shaw, Gordon (Rhonda) Drew and Robert (Laurie) Drew, his grandchildren, Debbie, Cathy, David, Lindsay, Michael, Jarrett, Jason, Morgan, and his six great grandchildren. All who knew Gordon will miss his positive support and his practical sense of humour.

At the request of Gordon, a private funeral will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire donations may be made to the Poppy Fund. The family wishes to thanks the Chartwell Colonel Belcher, the Foothill Cardiac ICU and the Rockyview Hospital for the comfort and concern you gave to our dad, granddad and great grandfather over the last few months.

At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

In living memory of Gordon Drew, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200

  4. Dear Judy and Family,
We will always remember “Mr. Drew” as one of the nicest people we have ever met. I saw him many times at St. James and he was unfailingly kind and friendly to all. The old neighbourhood has changed a lot, and there are still great people around, but as we look over the alley towards your old house, we really miss “the Drews”. May your happy memories of your dad bring a lot of peace.
    Your old Altadore neighbours,
    Margaret, Chriss and Kathy Szabo

  5. Maureen Huck (nee Currie) :

I am so sad to see Gordie has passed. I remember Gordie & Uncle Pat O’Brien sharing a couple of brew in the local pub long ago. I even babysat ‘you’ kids while Anne and Gordie would go out and trip the light fantastic into the wee hours of the night. My father Frank Currie and Gordie would help the Sunday morning collection at St. James on Sundays. Such fond memories!
