DRACKETT, Marion Beatrice

September 5, 1927 – Oxbow, Saskatchewan
October 3, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the age of 90.

Mom was born and raised in Oxbow, Saskatchewan and eventually moved to Estevan where she met and married our dad, Gordon. Dad predeceased mom in October 2009. After Mom and Dad were married on January 21, 1955, Dad was transferred to Toronto, where both children were born. Another transfer moved the family to Calgary in 1962, then to Winnipeg for three years in the mid-70’s and back to Calgary, where they lived until Dad’s retirement. When Dad retired, they moved to the Shuswap where they turned their summer cabin into their dream home. Winters were spent in Indio and La Quinta, California, where they enjoyed the company of wonderful friends from Canada and the USA. Mom welcomed everyone into her life and her many lifelong friendships reflect the kind and wonderful woman that she was. Mom will be remembered as an easy going and loving woman, who always looked impeccable. There was never any doubt on how much Mom loved us. She was committed to making our lives full and happy, and always put our needs before hers. Mom, we love you very much and we will miss you terribly.

Mom is lovingly survived by her daughter Susan (Michael) Tumback and son Bob (Sandi Babcock); sister Doreen (Ron) Peirce; grandchildren, Matthew Drackett, Logan Drackett, Alix Tumback and Samantha Tumback; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

A Celebration of Mom’s life will be held at the Calgary Petroleum Club (319- 5th Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in mom’s name to a charity of ones choice. We would like to thank the staff at the Auburn Bay Retirement Residence and the staff at the South Health Campus. You are amazing people and we cannot thank you enough for the wonderful care and attention provided to Mom.

“I can no longer see you with my eyes or touch you with my hands, but I will feel you in my heart forever.”

In living memory of both mom and dad, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  3. I first met Susan on my way to kindergarten. We became fast friends and I spend a great deal of time at their house. Marion always welcomed me, fed me, hugged me. My Dad had to travel to the US for heart surgery when I was just a kid. The Dracketts welcomed me with open arms and I stayed with them for about a month. I was considered one of their children and loved as such. Marion was always so beautiful and loving. This news has brought so many memories to the for front for me. She will be missed by all that crossed her path. Donna Ryan, Halifax.

  5. Loren Chrystal :

    Dear Susan and Bob,

When I was very little and learned that Aunt Marion and I shared the same birthday… I saw in her an image of what someone born on Sept 5th should aspire to. What a wonderful example she has been.

Although our bodies may fail… the love we share is eternal.

    Love,
    Loren Chrystal

Our sincere condolences on your moms passing

We often got together with your mom and dad for lunches and golf in Palm Springs. They hosted us at the cottage and their Calgary home.

Marion was just a joy. She was always so spry and fashionable. We really enjoyed her company!!!

Sad news but we have great memories of her!!
